Yeah, this is a good driver release! I'm running even heavy projects at a 64 samples hardware buffer size with my Ultralite-mk3 without any known issues with this driver build!

    Excellent performance!

    Thanks for the heads up.

Does anyone know where I can find some info about these? I have an original Ultralite (not MK3, etc.), and I'd like to know if it's compatible and whether there'd be any benefit. I read the CueMix addendum .pdf, but I can't find a unit compatibility list anywhere.

    I'm on Windows 7 32-bit using the 3.6.8.1414 drivers.

    Thanks-

Don't know where you can find any info, but the new drivers are a universal installer for firewire/USB products.

Thanks, Thomas. I doubt there'd be any benefit for me in the update, but I do wish MOTU would provide some info when they put out new drivers.

    +1 on the driver documentation.

New drivers seem to have fixed a nasty issue I was having. I'm using an UL mk3, and connectiing via USB. Soft synths were unplayable using the midi ports on the UL, due to horrendus latency, even with ASIO set to 64 samples. Installed new drivers, and it's working like a charm now :)

    Hi-

Just thought I'd post my experience for anyone out there with an original Ultralite.

I created a System Restore point (Win 7, 32-bit) and installed the new drivers acc. to the instructions. That went very smoothly, but I didn't see a noticeable improvement; i.e. I couldn't lower the latency without pops & crackles, which is all I was really interested in.

What it *did* do was eliminate the 384 samples per buffer option. Not sure why they did that -- an earlier update dropped the 32 spb, which I didn't like much either but at least there was some logic to that.  With the new drivers I had to go to 512 if I wanted to up it from 256.

I decided to go back to what I had, but System Restore didn't work. It said there was a file in use and to disable a-v, but that didn't make any difference. I ended up just uninstalling the new drivers and reinstalling the old ones, and everything's back to where it was.

So my conclusion is it's not worth the effort for an original Ultralite. I don't use System Restore often, but I do wonder why it didn't work, since this seemed like a good time to use it.

I'm pleased to hear you're back up and running.

Does that 3.6.8.1414 driver package have a 64 samples size as the lowest setting? I know the 3.7.x and previous are the drivers that are probably best for original Ultralite users, as far as lowest latency settings are concerned (32 samples being the lowest setting), but those older driver releases don't have the newer tools such as the FFT Analysis, Oscilloscope, X-Y Plot, and Phase Analysis, and there are compatibility problems with the newer operating systems.

As far as system restore working well on Windows XP, well, it rarely worked well for me. The good news is that it's significantly improved in Vista and Windows 7. :)

Nevertheless, I feel for you, and wish you will find a newer driver release that gives you the newer functions and stable low latency performance. I can't help thinking that an updated OS and upgraded or newish PC is a significant move in the direction of making this a reality for you. I'm thinking you should be able to get stable performance even with the original Ultralite using a 64 samples setting. I think the newer PC technology, such as a core i7, tripple channel memory, and improved OS, plays an impactful role, though.

    Cya around, Susan.

    Hi Thomas-

Yes, the earlier drivers went down to 32 samples, but when I installed Windows 7 I installed the 3.6.8.1414 drivers, which have 64 samples as the lowest setting. I still have the older drivers on my XP boot.

The 3.6.8.1414 drivers work fine. I was just curious to see if I'd get any benefit using the latest, and I really didn't see any. The newer tools you mention aren't relevant for the original Ultralite anyway, so no loss there.

Sorry if I gave the impression that I was complaining about latency or stability -- not at all! -- everything's working great here. I just figured I'd try the new drivers to see what if any difference they made, that's all.

    Thanks!

    Hello Susan:

You really didn't come across to me as complaining. :) I was just thinking that you were using latency settings of 256-512, and I think you can get stable performance from even using a 64 samples setting. You never mentioned if you can currently use a 64 samples settings, but when you mentioned those settings of 256, 512, and 384, I couldn't help wondering if you see stable performance with a 64 samples setting. With my Ultralite-mk3 and a core i7, I do. I also didn't know you had a Windows 7 installation as well as Win XP. That's why I brought up that a upgrade or newish PC and OS may yield better results for you. I was trying to give you hints of what may work better for you.

I have the Ultralite-mk3, so I wasn't aware that the new tools in CueMix aren't relevant to the original Ultralite users.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Hi Thomas-

I did mention I was using Windows 7 a couple times, but I'll have to put all my info in my signature one of these days! I only mentioned XP because I do still have that on my system and I am still running the driver version that goes to 32 samples on that so I have a reference, but I rarely use XP for audio these days.

I brought up the 256 to 512 thing because I thought it was interesting that they eliminated 384 in this set. I can often use 64, but I'm using 256 for a particular project, and I wouldn't want to have to go to 512 when 384 gives me enough leeway.

Thanks for the reply, and sorry for the miscommunication!

    Hi Susan:

OMG you did mention Win 7. OK I was thrown off by your mention of XP, thinking that was what you were using. My mistake.

    OK cya around Ms. :)

This driver update didn't work for me. I couldn't use the "CueMix" or "Audio Setup" programs because it said it was incompatible with the new driver so like Susan I reverted back to my older driver.
