OT: Sonar is going to the White House

This is off topic - couldn't help myself.

I had submitted a volunteer form online a couple of weeks back, to play piano/keys for one of the presidential inauguration balls they will be having here in DC at the end of the month.

Last night, I got an email from the White House - I got selected to play for one of the balls! :)

So stoked - anyways, I had indicated I had a computerized rig and all of that, and I will get to bring X2a to my jam there!  I have some projects set up that I will play along live with, having drums, bass, etc on midi tracks.

I'll try to get a picture of me, the computer screen showing Sonar up and running, and the background of the ball room, and will post it and also send it to the Bakers for their scrap book.

Too cool - had to share, hope the tux and my waistline get along.

Way to go Bob....... I played a gig at the white house once. I think it's closed down now though. Pity used to be a great drinking hole.

Perhaps we're talking different white houses though?

Would it be bad form to put my Chia Obama on top of my piano, like a bust of Beethoven?

Why not just take a keyboard and an iPod?

Better yet... the ballroom might actually have a piano.

You may just need the iPod.

Congratulations.  I'd like hear about your rig: that is, what virtual instruments in Sonar, what physical keyboard/synth, etc.

PS  I always found it odd that right after the US went to war with a guy named Osama and a guy named Hussein, we elected Barack Hussein Obama.  Then, after major protests and demonstations against Wall Street big shots, Obama's challenger was a Wall Street big shot.  This is a funny country, whichever side of the aisle you prefer.

I use Native Instruments Komplete 8 Ultimate, which has a bunch of synths in it.  The flagship program of theirs is a sampler called Kontakt 5.  I have something like 240 GB of samples for that program.  I also have the complete set of E-MU Proteus sounds for Kontakt.

Another of their synths is FM8, sort of like a SUPER DX7, on steroids.  For that, I also have a GIANT set of sounds, essentially every single factory sound for any of the DX-type synths Yamaha ever made - there are 20,000-30,000 sounds there, all nicely converted for use with FM8.

Then it also comes with Reaktor 5, which is a real cool synth that lets you combine modules of the various types of synthesis, to create pretty much any kind of synth you want.  I have one sound that was literally created from looking at the original circuit design pictures for the home theater organ Pete Townsend used for the beginning of Baba O'Reilly - it sounds PERFECT.  Another sound I have is an exact replica of the monster rotating organ sound from Won't Get Fooled Again.

I also have some VST instruments - a Minimoog, ARP 2600, and some others.

In addition to Sonar X2a, I also often use a VST host wrapper called Forte, from a company called Brainspawn.  This is a synth-rack program, allowing complex layering of sounds from any VST instruments and effects - TOTALLY sweet for live performance.

I use 2 controllers - one is an Axiom 61 Pro, and the other a Yamaha.

Congrats Bob! I was actually a volunteer motorcade driver in 2010 when the president visited Los Angeles in August of that year, I got to drive members of the White House press pool and got a pic with the Prez at the end of our duty. An unforgettable experience!

I think Cakewalk should commemorate the occasion with a special edition of its flagship software:

Way to go Bob....... I played a gig at the white house once. I think it's closed down now though. Pity used to be a great drinking hole.

Perhaps we're talking different white houses though?

sure it wasn't the white heart or white horse pub ? hehe

    or maybe it was ...

(seen it before anyone ? )
