OT: Sysex for Korg 05R/w

Could anyone out there help please.

I am looking for Korg 05R/w mode change Sysex messages. i.e. Combi, Program, GM.

I have done a search of the WWW not a great deal of help, and I have tried doing a search of this forum.

Many thanks in advance.

I am also going to RTFM, again.

    I have a KorgX5 manual which has the same synth engine as the 05R/W but possibly different ID codes in the sysex although exactly the same data strings.

    The X5 mode change string in Hex is....
    F0
    42
    3G (G = global chan 0-F)
    36 (X5 code - could be different)*
    4E (mode change command)
    0n (n=mode, see below)
    00
    F7

    The modes "n" are...
    0 = Combi
    1= Edit Combi
    2= Prog
    3= Edit Prog
    4=Multi
    5= Global

    * Looking at the dump request codes given in the Cakewalk.ini file, the 05R/W code is 36h, same as my X5.

    Hope that helps.

    Chears Jim thst seemd to work fine.

    Now the cheeky question

    I have it working for progarm and GM it wiuld be nice to select between Combi and Prog.

    Thanks

    I didn't think that was possible! I'd thought bank select was a specific "multi" command and that's the only mode I've used the synth in with a sequencer.

    You are probably right. It is that I like to use it in single voice mode sometimes.

    Again thanks for your pointer above works exactly the same on the 05

    Cheers

    Wookiee,
    Don't know if this helps, but this site is a very good resource for the 05R/W and X5DR:
    http://www.blosphere.net/~janne/korgypark.html
    Might want to poke around and see what you can find......

    Yeh, I forgot about Korgypark, a lot of useful info there.

    I just tried program changes with the synth in single Program mode, it appears to work!

    I wonder, are you using the Korg instrument definitions provided in the Sonar .ini files?

    Hi Jim

    Initialy I did it the hard way and entered it by hand directly into the define instruments page in Cakewalk Pro Audio something, I can not remember which version. I have had my 05R/w since 1996-7 so a number of the voices have been changed, replaced. Can not remember when but I got a copy of Midi Quest which has the facility to export an instrument definition file for Cakewalk, which I have used ever since. The only problem is that it makes best efforts not always a complete definition i.e. some controllers missing etc. I have downloaded a few varients off different sites but they have nearly always kept combies and programes as seperate definitions.

    Thanks for all your help, I will check out the defs provided they might be more upto date.

    I used to to use the X5 editor from Sound Tower in XP (not sure if it works under Vista). http://www.soundtower.com/synth/x5d.htm.
    It's cheap and you can probbaly deduce the sysex codes from it.

    + you can automate by recording your button and data entry on the module into a midi track (and see any sysex strings in the Sonar Event view). When you play the track back, it will reproduce what you did while recording. Make sure the units global midi filters are all enabled (that is, NOT filtered!).

    Jim

    PS, they may be old, but this family of synths still sound good in many areas - the Korg sounds have more attitude than TTS1 to begin with. Only my opinion of course ;)
