OT: our P5 forum

I was browsing the other forums of cakewalk...noticed the coffehouse was gone...and checked out the off topic threads. seems that we get away with posting off topics in our little neck of the woods without them getting moved. I like the fact that our community(sp?) seems to have a little more respect twords other's opinons/ and the fact that we almost never have flame wars in here. and since the P5 forum has such a great reputation for being kind and helpful to other's... in return, I wonder if cakewalk lets us get away with some of our off topic threads in here...

just some thoughts.

It's well behaved in here and I doubt cakewalk even moderates as much as say the Sonar forum. The coffee House is a sticky situation, One or maybe two trolls came in and took over with no moderation at all. Instead of fixing the problem in the CH they let it go to the point of no return. Any thing and every thing was being said by these trolls and they got away with it. I loved the CH it was cool place with cool people just like here. It sucks that it's gone, but I guess I'll be more productive. Now you see the trolls trying to migrate to the Sonar forum but Cake is banning them pretty quickly. I just hope the problem doesn't start in here or we will start to see a lot more moderation.

I think it's a combination of the fact that there's not really any bad blood between users at present time and also that the forum is relatively quiet. ie. active P5 related topics are not being pushed off the front page, in which case non-related subjects might be cut out to allow all of the related topics to have maximum exposure.
I think it's good for the general ethos of P5 to entice new musicians in and allow people to discuss matters such as sound cards, laptops, keyboards etc. as well as general musical discussion with others using the same software.
Hopefully the forum will continue to moderate itself.

I'ts been about a year now since i discovered this forum and that's a long time for me as most of the forums i've been a member of i've left after a few months because it became rubbish or i got bored.

I've never known a forum quite like this. It's such a great place to come to listen to or post music. I reckon we have some of the most interesting and talented producers of music of any forum and it's so diverse. Of course, any forum is only as good as it's members and that's why this one is the best.

Interesting ... I'm told that my old hair-do used to look like that of New York Jets' quarteback Chad Pennington, but not quite so blond.

Here's a question - who (or what) do other P5ers not quite look like?

[I thought it only appropriate that a thread celebrating the cheery nature of the P5 forum be dragged thoroughly off-topic].

    ditto that!

heck , I wasn't even aware that Cake moderated the other forums.... you mean they actually don't allow any Off Topics??? I like to kick back and log in here and read not only the news and related topics, but I really like the OT stuff here to spice things up!
I mean, I frequent a number of boards (about 4 others) but this by far is the best for all reasons outlined above.

yeah it's odd the way the rules are actually enforced.... many of the posts in most of the forums properly belong in "gear" but are not moved. [Track] announcements here are allowed, but my cd release post was moved from "Sonar" to "Songs" to wither on the vine (it's a cruel world out there, brothers! )

I think we should try not to spook anybody. Maintain our low profile. That way the trolls, the forum nazis, and the mods will all leave us alone (apart from mods actually participating ) :-)

I've been buying Cakewalk produts for a long time, going back to their old newsgroup, and this is about the best, behaved, friendly and helpful group I've ever come across. I would have never dared posted one of my songs in the Sonar forum. But it is different here. And I would like to thank everyone for the feedback. Great product. Great forum. I hope it continues.

    Thanks,

    George

    DA,

I also hope the forum does not change from the professional, courteous, respectful, helpful and incredibly informative state it is in at this exact moment.

But I must admit - the user base to this forum has grown over the last few years, and we have most of the ages groups frequenting and participating on the board, from all over the world - and everyone always seems to say the same thing about THIS Project 5 forum - "it 's a breath of fresh air", "it's friendly" etc...... and then they all seem to behave accordingly in order not to change it.

All the regulars go out of their way to keep it friendly, welcoming, warm and real. (Actually I think its because they (the regulars like 10, Tristian, B Rock, Marcella, Agincourt all all the rest of you ) are genuinely nice people).

    Anyway -

I too love it here and every day -- laugh with you all, learn with you all and experince a genuinely NICE place that I have not encountered anywhere else on the net. Thanks Pfivers and and thanks to Cakewalk fr great products and a great forum.

But it was exciting, at the time it looked like we didn't have enough traffic for Cake to even care...so we went into diatriabes about why we like music, why we started and all manner of off topic stories. We bonded and drew new people and well now, its like an explosion.

Its a completely different place now, despite some of the assho!es like myself and Mikey
