Odd Copy/Paste behavior in the Piano Roll View

This weekend we were working on a drum part we laid down via my Roland TD-12 kit.  There were a couple of spots in the song where timing was an issue and we wanted to align them.  In addition we wanted to add a crash or a tom in certain parts of the drums.

We were noticing that when you copy a section (say four measures) of the events and paste them somewhere else and then add a crash to the place you pasted the material that the crash would also appear where you copied from.  We've used Cakewalk since Pro Audio 9 days and have maintained MIDI events since.  I don't ever remember seeing this behavior before.  I tried this in X1a and 8.5.3 with similar results.

The only thing we recently added to our system was the AC-7 Pro Control Surface on the iPad.  It was running at the time and does require a software MIDI interface called rptMidi to be running.  I'm wondering if that could have caused the odd behavior.

I plan on trying some MIDI changes again this week without the control surface running to see if I can eliminate that as a possible problem.

Just thought I would put this out on the forum in case some else may have experienced this or knows why this might be happening.

Thanks,
Tom

i'm not sure about the PRV mode, but i know for a fact that when you're working with step sequenser and you copy and paste one clip then automatickly sonar links the 2 clips together. so when you change something in one clip, the change takes effect also in to the other. if that's the case also with PRV then try to unlink the 2 clips.

    sincerely,

    Ioannis

There is an option somewhere: "Copy as linked clips".  Find it and turn it off and you should be fine.
