Odd behavior with making new project Platinum?
Hello. I was doing a new project with platinum yesterday using midi file I had. When starting Platinum, I selected new, and directed it to the midi files in a certain folder with the content already made there in said folder. Once Platinum made Project folder, and audio folder, I click ok... It seems the midi is no longer in said folder, But audio and Project folder were made, and are empty. Where is the midi?....In the last Project folder I was working on before this new Project. How is that? Just saying...not a big issue?

I am afraid I don't understand your above post - can you please give explaining the situation again? Are you saying you are setting up a new project to be in some other folder location than the default Cakewalk Projects folder? IF you are saying you are creating a new Sonar project in the same folder as some existing midi file, then Sonar will save a folder with your project's name in that folder, with a sub-folder call Audio, but your existing midi file will NOT be in that new Sonar project folder. The midi file will be in the same spot it was - which is the same folder level as the new Sonar project folder. So, if midi file Disco-Duck is contained within a folder called 'Worlds-Best-Tunes', and I create a new Sonar Project called Dance-Fever, navigating to have it placed in the same folder as the Disco-Duck midi file, (which is the Worlds-Best-Tunes' folder), then the new Dance-Fever project will be created as a sub-folder within Worlds-Best-Tunes, and within Dance-Fever, will be an empty folder called Audio. The Disco-Duck midi file will NOT be placed inside Dance-Fever, rather it will be at the same folder level as the Dance-Fever project folder, both within the Worlds-Best-Tunes folder. If I have not missed anything, the above is how it should work, by design. If I HAVE missed something, please provide additional information, so I can better understand the issue you are having. I also am wondering why you would want to create Sonar projects outside of its normal Cakewalk Projects folder, in the first place. Bob Bone

That's how I interpreted the OP as well, and I just verified that it works as expected. I directed the new project to be created in Desktop\Temp where a MIDI file resided, and I got a project folder in that directory with the MIDI file still residing at the same level as that project folder and available for import from within the project.

Hello Bob...Thanks for chiming in...Not that this has cause a big issue, but, I recently was working on a very long jam session of recording of over 4 hrs...and it stayed on for over one month on that project...with out turning it off..and doing as i could rendering of many parts of that.... I then updated to the newer Brain tree update...so I had to shut down, and do the updates...all went ok according to the green showing after this process. I then opened up Platinum, and a migration occurs ...ok..then the usual window asking what you want to do, open old projects, or create new..ect...I selected new project, Name it, and then directed the windows to the new folder/files i made with midi in it to make this new project with Sonar...(I name a folder THE SWAN, AND PUT THE MIDI IN THAT)...So directing the project path window, to this folder, also makes the audio path automatically to the same folder...checking this to be correct, I made the click to go into Sonar. Now bring in the midi...but it is not in the folder any more, but moved to the old projects folder for some odd reason..and a cwp it seems in same folder now as the midi..why?....perhaps I made a mistake?..but I am sure of those steps.....odd?...Yah. And for my audio, as I have been waiting...I contacted sweet water who sold me the second Allen and heath zed r 16 to make more ins and outs availble to my needs....having issues with lossing ins and outs and driver confusion..with asio.... So the tech for pc, remote viewed my setup...All Great, and then I showed him...and we set the ins and outs and renamed them....now no confusion so far! So I had a cure perhaps in one area....and then this oddity happened.....Just to note...some people have been saying over many reads over my presence here, about lost tracks, or projects...and corrupted saves of cwp and cwb files made....I hope this is rounded up, and some one starts to look into it....who has the means and methods....if it is of warrent? Just trying to help....make it better and better, as we put our experiences on line.....so far it seems very stable and i do get work done....So I count all my blessings in that. Again that is all I know....I do not write code...so I have no clue....Thanks Bob, for being here for us!

I've been at this for a long time, and have never experienced any weirdness with file management that didn't turn out to be due to the loose nut behind the wheel. Unless it's repeatable, I would doubt this was SONAR's doing. The only thing I can think is that you failed to copy/move the MIDI to the new folder as you thought you had, or you inadvertently made a shortcut to it instead of a copy or something like that.

Ha ha Thanks Bundle fly...I like to keep my Nuts turned clock wise tight, as they do get loose from time time to time...Perhaps you should check periodically your own from time to time.... just to make sure...lol... but some odd things are occuring with Braintree in many odd ways...not saying it is Sonar...But I have had issues with file management in x2, and the issues openning some in X3, so I salvaged them audio files, and Got back some, some missing audio files found to be in some of those...I know I had recorded, but then cannot find....So, You may not have had...But some have.... Nope...I made the file The Swan, I opened up Sibelius 7.5 brought in the XML file, made the midi out of that, and saved it into that THE SWAN Folder...no mistake about that, as I went into that folder manually to see if it was there...and it was...along side the score and notation files. Then once remote viewing of the tech from sweetwater finished, after looking at my last project, which was finished...we renamed with friendly names the ins and out in that old project, and when opening it did not loose and found all things...no work arounds for play or record, or resetting up to get audio play back....I hope that fixes the problem with my ASIO...being lost and confused...but it is not yet tested with Briantree 1a. So I updated to that....and tried to open a new project, directed it to the swan folder and named the project the swan, opened sonar, and then to bring in that midi, it was gone, to a new resting place...the old project....Yah could be I was in spirit not fully having enough coffee, But i do not drink coffee much any more....mead is best....keeps me laughing out loud! But if it continues....at least I started to make said....as I do find em, I will post em!...wink.

oh, another oddity, before braintree update noted, and has been so for most x series for me, is redrawing of wave forms in track pain window. What I find, doing long sessions, is it draws while recording, but when one stops the recording it redaws again...and those drawn waves go to busy while redrawing...long recording sessions of up to 4hrs could take as long as 20 min to do, nothing but crossed fingers and hope before saving a cwp/cwb...not that it is a issue, ...but I have never seen this done like this before , so is it normal?...and turning it off, in prefernces as told to do once, when recording shows nothing being drawn at all, which brings other fears of it not recording until it is stopped and then it draws..and takes about the same time to do....But I guess that is it, and is normal behavior?...Just had to ask...about it while I am chiming or ranting, or trolling as some might think....But here is another thing I find odd...and never really saw done before like this....in other 32bit DAWs I have tried.

The waveform preview you see during recording is just low-res graphical representation of the meter movement over time. The re-draw when recording is finished is SONAR generating a picture file that can show the level of every sample in the file when zoomed in. Turning off waveform preview in Preferences isn't going to affect the picture file generation, but unchecking View > Display > Display Clip Contents in the track view menu might stop it.

Thanks Brundle Fly...I not sure I should mess with this redraw thingy yet...As I have had no real issues of crashes of late, and even though it takes time to do this redrawing, and I should not do anything until it is finished doing what it is doing, or I cannot until it is done, to save the captured audio and such..ASAP after recording that long,..So if anything does go south when redrawing...I got it backed up....is all my worries really to get saved...(law of computers they told me early on)....,,But, it does do the job, and I have made many recordings like this....Long Jamming of many tunes....in practice....And got some real good works now without pops or clicks every second on 24 tracks.... So it is coming into what I wanted ever since the dawn of Computers....Took a long road...and a hat or two, and some hair loss, and a few feathers ruffled...But Sonar x series seems more smooth now in win 8.1 than 7 on my system build,...I did not want to ware hats of frustration, and new learning of win 8.1 tricks and tips if new and setup mayham was with it, so I tried not to go into it right off with win 8, and it seems that was a good choice, but 8.1 seems to have things working here,....but I guess I am settling in , and now learning the software, and it is good........So trouble is with it still a bit, not sure why odd things occur, but it does mostly what I need, and still when things do not pan in one direction well, and bugs or nutty pilot error occurs, we come to teach, and learn, and stay open to each other...Nuts loose or not, we are human!....I hate the hat of trouble shooting a unknown, or oddities that were working before, and updates make something odd happen....Yes I may be a nut to buy in, and waste all this time trying to get bliss...But with out works of such hard devotion....when bliss is easy, it is soon forgotten and taken lightly...but when it is hard, and takes effort, works and learning Good teachers are necessary!...well the rewards are greatly enjoyed more so when taught with love!....with a cheer!...and Blessings! Thanks for the input...and the lol fun nature and tone of Good tidings! Sir Les.
