Oh man do I need help!
Had a project playing and started red lining the first thread on the cpu. Closed the project and reopened and got an error message. Something to do with required data. Now I get no sound and no cpu activity. What did I do?

Did you reboot the computer? If you're still getting the error message after that, make sure you jot down the entire message and post it. If it's a Sonar or synth message, someone might know what it means. If it's a Windows message, you can google it and probably get some info.

Yeah I did a reboot. The error message disappeared before I could read the whole thing. But what I remember was a Sonar message of required data. The audio engine is on but no sound, no cpu.

try looking in preferences to make sure all your inputs and outputs didn't get whacked. Also could check windows for the same thing. This has happened to me before. Can't explain why, but it happened. good luck

Forgot to ask, is it just that one project, or are you not getting any sound or CPU activity in any project now?

No sound from any programs. Just tried Windows media player. Tried a system restore, but that didn't work. Could it be something got screwed up with my interface?

Maybe try a different USB port. Hopefully your motherboard didn't get too hot and fry something (unlikely).

Well you guys got me thinking it was the computer and not Sonar. I powered the computer down completely for about ten minutes and started it back up. Bam! I've got sound. Don't know what happened, but it all started when I red lined the cpu. I'll have to watch this in the future. Thanks everybody for jogging my brain. BC

Good to hear. It could be that the audio interface just froze up and needed a hard reboot.

Not really. It was only the first core dipping into the redline area.

Hmmm. I had a strange case where I set the audio interface to loopback and forget. When I sent audio out to the interface it would feedback and cut out. I thought it was defective unit until I found it. I now reset the interface as a standard action when I'm having troubs.
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.
