Oh, where, oh, where, did my recording track go...?

Howdy, folks. How goes it with the music making?

I've been using Cakewalk Music Creator Pro 24 since the year 2003, but something's happened that I've never seen before.

I arm a track for recording, click on the "Record" button, and then record from my MIDI keyboard...but no track appears. However, the option to "undo" the recording appears in the EDIT tab. I checked for MIDI activity in the icon on the status bar below the track window, checked for the same activity on the M-Audio MIDISport 2 x 2 interface and got the green light, and can even hear the notes sounding as I record...but the track is whack! Ain't nuthin' there. Good god, a'mighty, chilluns!

Your answer is probably gonna embarrass me, 'cuz I know the solution to my problem is probably staring me in my big, ugly face, but I just cain't see it for lookin'.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Most sincerely and respectfully,

I read about this happening with audio tracks, never with MIDI. Maybe this will help: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?high=&m=1984587&mpage=1#1986957

Some more details would be in order.

    Are you still using MCP24?

Have you updated to a new computer?

What is the OS you are using?

    Hello, "Guitarhacker"...

I think you helped me out before. God bless you!

Yessir, I'm still using MCP24. I've been using the same computer for four years. My operating system is Windows XP, Service Pack 3.

    Thank you, again!

    Sincerely,

    Hello, "Beagle"...

I went into the "Record Options" function and saw that "Sound on Sound (Blend)" was selected.

Is that where you wanted me to check?

    Thank you!

no, but I don't know where the function might be listed for MCP24 I've never used it.  there's a function on MC3 and above called "PUNCH IN" for recording.  it's in the TRANSPORT or RECORDING menu options.

    Dear "Beagle"...

Okay, then I found the right function, which in MC Pro 24 is called "Recording mode". The options are 'Sound on Sound' (Blend), 'Overwrite' (Replace), and 'Auto-Punch' (Replace).

Most often I have it set to 'Sound on Sound'.

Beagle, I tried a solution that was suggested to me by another forum member -- erasing the 'picture cache' to possibly get rid of a corrupt cookie, or something like that. Well, unfortunately, it didn't work.

I think the most practical thing for me to do would be to remove and then re-install the program. I have all my settings stored on an external hard drive, so I won't lose anything critical.

I sure am grateful to you for taking the time to help me solve my problem!

If I purchased Music Creator 5, would it be backward compatible with my current *.bun and *.cwp files?

    Thank you! Sincerely,

    Dear "57Gregy"...

I applied the solution -- erasing the picture cache to be rid of a 'bad cookie' -- that was suggested in the link you referred me to.

Unfortunately, it didn't work, but I think the swiftest way for me get back to work would be to remove and then re-install MC Pro 24. All of my song setting are stored on an external back-up drive, so I won't lose anything.

Thank you for being so generous with your time and knowledge!

    Sincerely,

It's possible that the keyboard is transmitting on a different channel than the MIDI track is recording on.
