I own Photoshop and Illustrator outright (CS5 versions).

Now that I don't have the T-Shirt shop anymore I don't need Adobe Cloud. I'll stick with my paid for copies since I'm less likely to need to share with anyone who have a version greater than mine.

I have PhotoShop CS6 and hope I NEVER have to get a cloud subscription.  Just the thought that all of sudden I can't access my files because my subscription ran out makes me shudder.

The most recent versions of Photoshop have some useful things that earlier versions don't, such as the context aware fill. Very useful for removing the litter I didn't see when taking the landscape photograph but leaps out on the screen.

As for Adobe's cloud storage, the only thing I use cloud storage for at all is syncing iOS mail and notes with the Mac. I like my data where I know where it is and what its up to. And uploading over 250GB of photos and the same as music tracks would take days even over fast fibre broadband....

On clouding i am a heavy user of OneDrive. Use it as backup and work space for my creative works. I get a "free" 1TB for having the Office 365. And i use office a lott. Latest lyrics was written on OneNote. This things work, but photo shop is way overrated. I can work much faster in Paint.net, and that's free. For Office you get free programs too, but love the ribbon menu and overall OneDrive integration in Office.

It feels good to stop the Adobe bills tho!

I've never used it but I still hate it... just like I hate ProTools.

I'm kind of a hipster like that.

I remember Adobe when Adobe was cool.

You've probably never heard of me.

    and so forth...

Photoshop isn't over-rated if you need reliable colour/contrast matching from screen to print. Adobe's real photography powerhouse though is Lightroom/Camera Raw. There's nothing to compete with Lightroom for handling and processing a few thousand (or more) digital negatives.

As for Pro Tools, I've never owned it but have been recorded into it, though many years ago. I do remember it seemed much more complicated to do simple things in like eq or compression than Sonar was at the time. It may not have helped that the engineer really saw digital audio as a new-fangled kind of thing related to MIDI (which he hated) and Pro Tools as something he had to have to get work, so his reaction to concepts like "can't you sort out that wrong note on the bass by deleting it, copying this correct note here then just paste it in?" was "erm...... no, I don't think so.....you'll need to get him back again to play that note....."

That was when an HD system cost more than the average car and as nearly as much as my house....

Indeed but I think my biggest issue was the proprietary nature of it all (hardware, plugs, need for dongles, etc). I think that's changed somewhat but AFAIAC it's not worth it. If I were to drop that kind of coin for an audio program I'd go back to Nuendo... however I watched some vids on CuBase recently and it just kind of looks all mucked up now (and I'm assuming since Nuendo is just a really nice version of CuBase it uses the same procedures).

I'm cool with Sonar and Reaper for now but I really wish some of the quirks that smack me in the face with Sonar when I decide to get fancy would get fixed/improved so I wouldn't HAVE to open Reaper anymore.

Oh... and hi, tlw. I was meaning to reply to the viola post you made but that thread got away from me... and forget what I was gonna yammer about anyway.

    Hope you're well.

    Cheers!
