I don't think reading it that way makes a difference...(funny works)...it's all history anyway and we know how people screw that up. No matter how it's read the part that means the most to me is "I stopped performing". One of the best decisions I've ever made and immediately after doing so I knew I should have done it sooner. About a decade sooner. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

At last!!! a name-dropping thread!!! I've been waiting for this for years!!! Who has seen me live? Tony LaRussa, and the son of Johnny Cash. On different nights. That's in like 30 years of being out there. your envy is palpable. cheers, -Tom

my crowds were often 10-60 at various venues. I never advertised and did pretty well *at the door* which is not something I can say for some of the big names. :D:D Anyone who hasn't performed an instrument in front of an audience needs to do at least once in a lifetime. It's the most un-natural ,alien experience I've ever had (besides that anal probe thing)

Biggest crowd was 14500 as an opening act. Rob Halford used to come see us with his boyfriend. Glen Buxton (original guitarist for Alice Cooper) got up and jammed with us once. He was a pretty crispy critter by this time and living with his mom. Sweet guy. Donald "Buck Darmha" Roeser. Bass player knew him and introduced him to me simply as Don. He jammed a few songs with us and blew the room away. I didn't find out who he was until afterwards. Tom Peteresen from Cheap Trick walked by our dressing room and asked their road manager "Who's the sound check tonight?" I doubt he came out to hear us, but I'd like to think he did. George Lynch from Dokken came in to a club I was playing at. He was with another guy and a group of strippers. They came in during our break, but didn't stay for our next set.

Just remembered a funny story. My band was opening for Black Oak Arkansas at a new club in Phoenix, Az. I had invited my mom and her husband to the show so they could meet my future wife. The club held around 350 and I got them good seats at a table near the front. After our set, I walked my girl over and introduced her to my mom. As we sat there chatting, Black Oak started their set. They started with a blistering instrumental and mom was a little taken aback. She became alot taken aback when Jim Dandy came running past her table shirtless and wearing skin tight white spandex pants with no undershreddies. He jumped onstage and began his prowling and sneering and hip swiveling and thrusting at the tables in front, then let loose a gutteral primal scream. I turned to look at my mom, but she was already out of her chair and headed for the door.

My mum was the worst person to see me live. Between sets, she approached a group of girls that had been in the front ogling the band and said "the bass player isn't that impressive - he still sucks his thumb." Or maybe it was my wife, who saw a similar bunch of "front row girls," climbed onto the stage, kissed me on the cheek, smiled at the girls, and walked off. Or maybe it was a good friend who looks like my twin. A pair of women approached him between sets, thinking he was me, and complimented him on his (my) musical ability. He took them both home, and when he left they had my phone number and the impression that they'd spent the night with me. I ended the evening safely at home with my wife, thankful for that alibi. Come to think of it, I don't think I WANT an audience anymore!

About 30 odd in a pub, certainly not there to see me, but I would play a few tunes on my dulcimer as a "guest" between sets on a weekly basis. That was back in the late 70s.
