Ok...now for a microphone :)

Alright, firewire 410 is on the way...now I am looking for an entry level microphone to capture vocals with. I don't want to break the bank, as this hobby is already cutting into me pretty good. So....let the suggestions begin. And thank you in advance.

What type of vocals ? Are we talking screaming heavy metal or more delicate stuff ?

For studio quality there are a bunch of cheap condensor mics now starting at about $60. MXL is a good starter brand and have a very good selection. Or for about $200 you can get a Studio Projects C1. For loud screaming stuff or rap a good old dynamic mic like you would use live works just fine.

Its going to be more of the traditional heavy metal type vocals. Not growling and screaming...but melodic.

    Iron Maiden comes to mind.

Well it won't cost much to try a studio condensor that would be the way to start. Here is a list of some..
What is so strange these days is that a good dynamic mic now costs more then a studio quality condensor..
Those folks in China make some cool stuff.

I'm no mic expert, but I'm pretty happy with my Carvin CM90 (about $120). It's a small condenser. If you listen to this:

    Aftermath

...you will hear my results without a preamp (just recorded direct into my US-122) and very minimal mixing knowledge. If I can get decent results with my setup and equipment, someone with a good setup and recording environment ought to do alright (I just record in my office in front of my 'puter), I would think. Of course, I'm not gonna claim that it's better than an expensive mic. But Carvin generally is very good bang for buck.

I Needed an additional Mic for some vocal recording in my Home studio. I picked up the Samson C03 large-diaphragm mic with three pickup patterns, along with switchable low-cut filter and 10dB pad. The pickup paterns choices are supercardioid, omni or figure-of-eight polar patterns. I enjoy the sound of this mike and I was able to Pick it up at Sam Ash for $99.00 plus an additional 25% off with a customer appreciation post card that came in the mail.

Great reviews from Sound on Sound Magazine

Check it out! It won't break the bank and you'll get great sound.

    Peace

    Carvin CM90 (about $120).

That was my first phantom-powerable mic. I've had good results using them on clean guitar amps and acoustics, as well as overheads. They're not terrible for vocals either, and in a pinch I've used them on kick drums (from a couple feet out). Not bad there either. Nice thing is they can also run from a AA battery.

Recently I got two Takstar's PCM5500. Cheap and Chinesse but sound good for the price (No, I am wrong: They sound really good despite of the price). About $40 ea.

I found that the link to Takstar is broken but found this other one which shows the PCM5500 (go to the MICROFONI A CONDENSATORE section in the middle page)

Hey...ended up finding a good deal in town through ebay. I am meeting this guy today to pick this set up. What do you think? I have read many good things about this low priced, but phenominal set of mics.

These were pretty much like new, and I got a pop filter and a cord with them....so it was ok by me.
