Old 32 bit 8.5 won't launch

I have both 32 & 64 bit versions of Sonar 8.5, as well as X2 on my Win 7 64 bit PC. I normally use the newer 64 bit versions, but when I need to load an old session that has 32 Cakewalk plugins (such as CW FxDelay), I need to use the 32 bit 8.5 version. It has all the patches and upgrades installed.
When I launch it, the splash screen comes up, stays for 10 seconds or so, and then the program shuts down without launching. It shows up in the Windows Task Manager during this time, but disappears when the program shuts down. I've tried reinstalling, reboots, running as an Administrator, but am out of ideas. I just need to bounce some old projects in order to use them with newer software. It seems that the 32 bit version doesn't like to play nicely with the 64 bit installed. Oh, and BTW, both the 64 bit 8.5 and the X2 work fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

Further to this: I have held the CTRL key down while launching, which then prompts me to copy and overwrite settings, etc. I let it do this, but it still won't launch.

It seems that both my 32 bit (in the "Program Files (86)" folder) and the 64 bit (in the "Program Files" folder) versions of 8.5 both seem to use the same INI files, located in User/AppData/Roaming/Cakewalk/Sonar 8.5/ folder. The INI files and DAT files are in there, but I don't see anything that differentiates between 32 and 64 bit.

Is there a bootlog file that is created when launching? Maybe I can figure out where it's hitting a brick wall. I hate to start wading through the Windows Registry (god forbid), but am comfortable doing it, if that's what needs doing.

There may be something in the Windows event log.

32bit and 64bit versions of the same release use the same user directory. Holding CTRL when launching SONAR will add any missing files back to the user directory. Hold CTRL+SHIFT will overwrite the files in the user directory.

thanks for that, scook. I'll have a look at the event log in Windows.

not really finding anything in the Windows Event Viewer. I have it open while launching 8.5 (32 bit) and I don't see it coming up anywhere in the event viewer. No errors given. The program just opens the splash screen for a few seconds, then closes. Still stumped.

an update: I reinstalled the 32 bit version of Sonar 8.5 (for the 3rd time), and for some reason, it opens now! I then upgraded with the patches until now it's current. It's opening (and so are the 64 bit versions).
I only installed the program files... nothing else, except a couple of 32 bit plugins I'm trying to use (CW FxDelay... see start of this thread). The CW FxDelay plugin won't work in the 32 bit now. Have rescanned the plugins, etc... Will keep at it until I get this thing sorted. Thanks for the help so far.

I am pretty sure the plug-in you want to use is a DirextX plug-in (or it would load in 64bit SONAR). Scanning is meaningless as it only works with VST plug-ins. DirectX plug-ins use regsvr32 to create the needed registry entries. If you can locate the plug-in, run the cmd.exe as administrator and attempt regsvr32 {dllname} or try an advanced install of the plug-ins.
