Old Black Dog - ten years later
Ten years ago, I made my first music video with my former band WIFE and my friend and colleague, Mike Moors, who produced the video. The song was recorded in Sonar 3, and the video was recorded on an inexpensive mini DV camcorder. It was not shot in high resolution, as that format wasn't widely available then. In honor of the tenth anniversary of this video, I remixed and remastered the music in X3 and ran the video through Sony Vegas 12 to rerender in hi def for Youtube. The original video was originally submitted with a stereo soundtrack, but somewhere over the years, Youtube altered it to mono. It is now back in glorious stereo. Also, the video clips are slightly grainy because they have been rendered before, but they held up pretty well. I had a lot of help with this song. Here is the list of contributors. Rich Reavis- Slide guitar Mike Moors- Organ and video production Jerry Reiter- Harmonica Roger Fife- Bass Karyl Wilson- Backup vocals Laura Bryan- Backup vocals Myself- Guitar and piano I hope you enjoy this piece of old fashioned rock and roll. It can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/wa...7PrwXH0HBVSjkxoW1xiTaw

Good song Lynn. I was listening on my iPad and it came across really well on this little unit. I will have to listen at home later.

Thanks, Mike, for the reply. I used my Samsung tablet during the mixing stage of this song because I'm aware that more and more people are listening on tablets, cellphones, and laptops. I believe it helped.

John, thank you for taking the time to listen and respond. Yes, we had a blast that day even though we barely knew what we were doing. Much credit goes to my friend Mike, who had experience with making United Way videos for the NFL back in the 90's.

Enjoyed it very much! Looks like you all were having a blast. You have a very soulful vocal going on there, and I liked the slide guitar. Sound is clear and tight. Cool video! I like the song too.

Mike, thank you for your positive words. The people that participated had a wonderful, positive outlook which came through. I can't credit them enough. Kenny, having seen some of your video work lately helped me to decide to redo this. I can't compete with a horse nor can I play guitar like you, so your words are meaningful to me. Thanks so much for your time and input.

Man I watched this on my phone this afternoon while I was in car rider waiting to pick up the boy? And it was pretty good :-) Even the sound on my iPhone speakers? (didn't have the buds) The shooting in front of the tracks w/the train rolling by? :-) The pooch seemed a bit distracted, but I would have had trouble keeping mine off the tracks I thought it was quite excellent all the way around. The "only" change I would make? There's a band called "SNEW?" If you search them, I think you'll figure out what changes I would make (nothing related to the music or performances) Good job though! I would like to do a vid as good as this one day.

Wow, Lynn, what a trip. I was just telling my wife the story about how "Lucky" the dog saved me in the desert. I was hiking in washes in the middle of nowhere and two wild dogs started stalking us. They started to come after me and old Lucky just kicked their butts. She survived some bad injuries and thanks to her so did I. THIS VIDEO IS GREAT!! Is that you singing? I just loved this. Sound was great and the video was fun. I love watching the people up here perform on videos. Kudos to you, buddy. That was fun!!!!!!!

Thanks to all for participating. Wayne, I appreciate your comments, and so would Hercules. Go out and by a slide and start practicing. We're still learning ourselves. Steve, thanks for the kind words. Putting some cholesterol back into the song was a goal of mine. Dan, thanks for the kind words. I used to be far more blues oriented when I lived next to the rock quarry. Robbie, what a nice thing to say. I worked hard to make this sound good on the lowest common denominator of speakers. I'll take your advice and check out SNEW. We got lucky with the train rolling by. We had no idea that it was coming, and we had a hard time hearing our soundtrack as it was rolling by. That's why you can see our boombox in certain scenes. Warren, if you've been saved by a dog before then you know what makes a dog so special. As a matter of fact, my story is really fictional, and Hercules was actually owned by the bass player whose property we filmed at. And, yes, that is me singing. I appreciate you kind words immensely.

"hot chicks in bikinis?" There, I said it. My first music video will have "hot chicks in bikinis..." Very hot, in very small "tight" bikinis... I may have a train too? Perhaps a dog? But DEFINITELY! "hot chicks in bikinis..." grinding... Like SNEW. So regardless of what the music sounds like? You will have an impression (perhaps subconscious?) regarding the tune.

Wayne, you're probably not the only one who thought that. Zep's black dog wasn't old. Thanks for listening. Mark, thanks for you kind words. Once upon a time, I sang in a blues based band, so that's how I destroyed my vocal chords. My friends deserve much credit for their behavior :) Robbie, I see where you're going with this. Bikinis were talked about, but some have an aversion to over-dressing.
