Old Cassettes to CD - Indexing

I'm doing something I said I'd never do.

I'm copying some old recordings of myself and some friends to cd.

I now have a few huge, continuous WAV files that I want to burn to cd.

Is there any way to place track markers in the WAV files before I burn?

Any freeware out there that can do this?

Thanks.

I use Nero for that. It allows you to insert index markers any way you like.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I know that Sony CD Architect can do that and at least some version of Nero can. Don't know of any free stuff.

    Dave, Frank, thanks.

I don't have CD Architect. The only version of Nero I have came with my pc. I doubt that has a full option set but I'll check.

I do have Adobe Audition version 1 around her somewheres but I'm not sure I can re-register it. It's been awhile. That may have that option, Not sure.

While rummaging through some old floppies I'd forgotten about CDWave.

An oldie but goodie. Not pretty but effective.

You can split the files into the songs.... then burn them to CD with your favorite burner. As an option select Zero seconds between the songs that have been split and the music will never stop, but the track numbers will change....

Pink Floyd's DSOTM does this.   ALSO.... I have a SONY RCD-W500CD  burner/player that records in real time like a cassette player. It has an increment track number function...I press the button where I want a track indicator.

With some software you get a glitch between tracks even if you set the gap to zero. It's worth a try but it's better to have it all one big file.  That's the way CDs work anyway. There are no "tracks" on a CD it's just one big blob of Reed/ Solomon encoded audio. The CD player has to read in the table of contents to find out where all the tracks are. That's why it takes a second before the thing starts, it's building the track map in memory.  Some of the early units were fairly slow at this so you could tell it was doing something. The newer ones get it done fast so there is very little delay before it's ready to start playing.  On some pro CD players they even buffer some of the song as it goes now so if the unit gets bumped you don't get a skip, my Tascam does that.
