Old Country Song - "Rosie Jones"

This is a cover I did of an old Buck Owens song.

Rosie Jones

Instrument list:
Session Drummer 3.
Fender San Miguel acoustic.
Squire P Bass.
Fender Strat w/EMG Gold pickups.
Guitar Rig Pro 4.
A brass slide and a 12" phillips for the percussion on the second half of the song.
Peavey condensor mic for acoustic and vocals.
No V-Vocal --- what ya hear is what ya get. :)

This is a song I did for an album I've been working on for quite a few years in my spare time called 'Songs My Mama Taught Me'.

Hope you ol' time country fella's enjoy it.

Comments good or bad are welcome.

Sounds really nice - I like that tremelo on the guitar.  Nice vocal performance with a lot of sustained notes.  Sounds like a good mix - the vocal harmonies tucked nicely behind the lead vocals.  Acoustic guitar is compressed and at the perfect volume and strummed evenly.

Why not post a link in your signature Bub, and get some of them slobs in the Coffee House taking a listen

You could link direct to the song, or even better, a link to this thread.

I thought this very, very, well done.

I do remember Buck Owens, along with a few other country greats.

You've really captured that vibe on this tune and yer vox sounds good!(I'm glad there ain't no V-vocal either)

    Hello Mr.bub,

Beautiful job.   Very nice singing and playing all around.   I like the mix a lot....it has an early 70s split style.  That's a million dollar voice.

    Great job Bub.

I might adjust the vocal EQ a bit to bring you forward... I think the singing is solid and in tune just fine. The vocal's lower midrange seems a bit cloudy but I think the performance is there.

Sounds nice... how about a bit of upright piano... Ray Acuff old school style.

    best regards,

Very nicely done!  Great job on the vocals without the V-vocals.

I have done recording in which 60% of the vocals were touch with V-vocals.  Lots of work specially when I  had 3 or 4 singers going like different directions.

I agree harmonies would have made this perfect.  The tremolo is sweet, what are you using there?

    Nice classic mix.  Enjoyed!

I share your feelings with V-Vocal  (except on very high harmonies, it can help in spots

I absolutely hate this, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the music. It is actually a testament to it. Country is like nails on a blackboard to me. But, it sounded pretty good, seemed well structured.

I'm hearing a click in the left speaker, but I just realised it might be your spurs a rattlin' as you tap your foot.

Yeah, spot on though, really nicely recorded and put together, them vocals and harmonies sound just right to me.

I obviously missed this first time around so the shameless plug method seems to work after all...

Wow, Bub!  This is the best I've heard from you, IMO!

What I like:  vocals!  excellent!  harmonies are excellent lead is great!
love the sound of the acoustic and slide - excellent recording.

what I don't like:  (just MO, take it or leave it is fine)
I don't like the 12" phillips sound if that you're hitting in the left speaker.  it either doesn't ring enough or doesn't have enough presence or something - it sounds too much like "clicking" instead of a "diiiing"
I don't like the acoustic panned hard right and slide panned hard left - it leaves a vast open area and leaves a lot out when the slide is not playing, I feel lopsided then because the acoustic is still strumming away and there's a void in the left.

but those are mostly just my personal taste and overall the cover is excellent!
