Old Guys Who Still Rock

Saw Buffalo Springfield at Bonnaroo.  They started doing soft music, but pulled out the electrics for a rockin version of Mr Soul.  There were 14 year old rap fans that were going nuts for that, For What Its Worth and the finale of Rockin in the Free World.

Robert Plant and the Band of Joy - I am not a bluegrass fan, but these guys were awesome.  Plus they did 5 zep covers - and did them way different than the Zep versions.

Galactic - maybe the best drummer I have seen in ages.  Singer from Living Colour

Bootsy - an hour late on stage and crowd was booing.  But he was awesome when he came out.

Primus - what can I say - Les Claypool???  He is the Jeff Beck of bass

Dr John - was never a huge fan, but it was a great show.

Widespread Panic - had never listened to them before but was massively impressed

Things that were disappointing
Gregg Allman - I loved that music in the 70s.  It has stood still.  Wasn't bad.  Just boring.
Arcade Fire - uh - wot's the deal?
Enimen - took about 3 minutes before I was gagging and leaving.
Lil Wayne - Came out and said "I believe in God...." then Mutha Fuggin N!gga b!tch.... over and over - uh - mixed message there.  Do not see the entertaining factor at all.
Raves like Bassnectar - talented in the studio, but watching someone push buttons on a controller for Ableton Live - the kids loved it.  Not me.

Still an awesome time.
Oh
And I am in love with Allison Krauss.  I think we are getting married soon, if I can just find some chloroform.

Totally untrue.  Plant and the Band of Joy used bluegrass instruments to do their Americana music AND to do Zep covers.

BTW - a bluegrass version of Black Dog, Misty Mountain Hop, Gallows Pole, Ramble On.... amazing.

Not me.

Why is Enimen and Lil Wayne even in the same ball park as the other musicians you mentioned  -

as far as you saying the kids loved it not me - I would probably say the same thing comparing to all that live

and I feel bad for the kids - becuase they just dont know -

you all heard that each generation is rebellious and that the new and old generation will automatically not like the same music -

I say hog wash - to that - I like all music no matter what decade it came out of - as long as its GOOD -  Lil Wayne and Enimen are low on my list of great musicians - not because I was born in the wrong generation - but beacause its bad music - and the kids --  they dont know better - someone told them it was good

at least me and the new generation both like green day - so we got that going for us

I saw Asia and Yes last year in concert.  Benoit David was OK, but he wasn't Jon Anderson and he wasn't old.  Oliver Wakeman had a lot of keyboards.  take that as you wish.  he's not old either.  now that that's out of the way, to the old guys who rock (or don't)...

Geoffry Downs was fantastic.  truly an inspiring performance.
Steve Howe was absolutely amazing - my 2nd favorite performer of the group.
Chris Squire was a master.  absolutely great performance!
John Wetton still has a decent voice, but he's not a good "front man" (he just stood there in front of the mic, very "stoic") and his bass skills weren't anywhere near Chris' - I wasn't too impressed with him.
Carl Palmer was the highlight of the show.  he's a showman and he has the skills to show everyone!  he was rockin'!
