Old Skool Meets New Skool...

Signal Chain:

Fender Rhodes Mark I Stage Piano "Eighty Eight" >

Universal Audio 710 Twin Finity >

RME Multiface II PCI-e >

Sonar X1 at 96/24 on Win7 64-bit 12 gigs ram >

Native Instruments Kore 2 >

Native Instruments Guitar Rig 4 >

Sounds and EFX's are controlled with the Kore 2 controller, change or alter amp's and cab's all from the controller >

Amazingly cool sounds coming out of Mackie HR824's >

Sonar X1 transport controlled by Akai Professional LPD-8 via ACT in Sonar X1 >

Control the sound and the recording all from a 70's Classic!

A Rhodes "Eighty Eight" with Kore 2, Guitar Rig, and X1?

Gotta love it!

That's very cool, A1 - When you need all the MIDI controllers that the Fender Rhodes can't send, like CC1, CC11 - you use Kore for that somehow, or - Do you draw in controllers in Sonar's PRV?

    A1:

How do you find the Kore 2? I've been lookiing at it to complement my alphatrack minimalist Control Surface philosophy.

Hey, I like the way you've let the Kore and Akai controllers get dusty and smudgy to match the Rhodes.

If I wasn't doing this I'd just be doing something else...

I could put Kore 2 into MIDI mode and send those CC's that way. X1 does record the controller data of the Kore 2 controller, so whatever knob or button you use, X1 records that as automation.

What I am doing is just running the Rhodes through the Guitar Rig Amp sounds AND all of the other cool EFX from all of my VST's. I use Kore 2 with the controller to scroll through all of GR's presets, or any FX preset I own, and when I find one I like I select it and then the controller is now mapped to that amp's controls. This way I can select any amp combo, and then tweak those amp controls to get the perfect sound. I then can start X1 recording with the LPD-8, and get right into recording without having to mess with the computer. I think it's a fantastic way to use the old with the new. It's really amazing some of the sounds I'm getting with this Rhodes. I'm really diggin' it.

I got mine on Ebay for $200. Well worth it in my opinion. I also have Komplete 7 which just makes Kore Kompletly Kool. Sorry, couldn't help it.
