Old record effect

Hi, I'm mixing a song called "My Last Tear" for a friend of mine.  He wanted to have it sound like its being played on a old scratched up record.  So I found a 6 or 7 second loop of a record static sound that he liked, looped it, and tried mixing it in with the double tracked acoustic guitar.  I used some heavy EQing to box in the guitars between 350 hz and 4300 hz.  What do you guys think?

I think that sounds a little weird because the static is right around 3500-4000 hz.  I am currently eq'ing and compressing both the static and guitars in one track to make it sound more unified.

I thought this would have been a really cool intro for about 20 seconds to..... an a$$ kicking hard rocker..... beyond that... sorry .... I didn't find it very interesting.....the EQ is just too strange to carry the entire song the full length.... and tune the guitar.

Sorry didn't mean to sound harsh.
