Older X3 project kinda freaking out in Platinum (and X3)

For some reason when I select/click on a track it will stretch my controller lanes up covering half the bottom screen of PRV with controllers showing that I've never used in this project... or actually never use period (ie expression, channel aftertouch, etc).
Any idea as to what might cause this?
Thanks very much,
Randy
EDIT: fortunately it does seem to remember which controller lanes I want open (velocity and CC1) but regardless what track I select it still jumps in size to fill the bottom half of my PRV...it has always remembered the size before (less than 1/8 of the bottom)
EDIT 2: this fortunately is not Platinum specific as it happens with this particular project in X3 also...I hadn't opened the project in over 2 years and I would imagine it has become corrupt after all the system changes since last opening.

There's another thread about something like this - but I'll be damned if I know where it is. Basically - try undocking the PRV, set it to floating, and set your controller lane size etc, then re-dock it.

I'm not 100% sure about what you're describing - but this might help ;-)

Any chance you have a third-party MIDI clip in the one of the tracks somewhere - maybe further out in the timeline if you're not seeing controller events in the current view?

I vaguely remember that thread but as I recall it was the whole PRV that wasn't showing up (after a save).
I'm going to mess with this later this morning and poke around with yours and Dave's ideas and report back.

But I agree it doesn't sound like the issue here.

What you're seeing is SONAR automagically opening a controller lane for every controller type it finds in the track. I've noticed that it'll re-open all those lanes every time you switch tracks in the PRV tracks pane - I don't think that's new to Platinum. So I'm thinking those controllers must exist somewhere in the project if not in the particular track in question.

Wow, this project is more screwy than I thought...I tried different  variations of dock/undock/save/open/hold my mouth in a different way, etc but still get the same weirdness.
It can even open controller lanes when selecting an audio track!
I've developed a new issue in this project too...at some point I started hearing a strange tremolo effect (for lack of a better term) going on...not on all tracks but just on Garritan products (Garritan Personal Orchestra and Instant Orchestra).
I thought it must be some kind of FX somewhere but it happens when disabling all fx (by hitting E) and freezing the synths plays back the same.
I guess the good news is this is apparently not a Platinum specific issue as it acts the same way in X3e.
I would shrug all this off as simply a corrupted project but I'd really like to finish it and it's too complex to start over.
I can live with the weirdness in PRV but wondering if anyone has a clue as to what could be causing the tremolo effect (amplitude change of the signal... modulating the volume up and down in a cyclical manner)
    Thanks guys,
    Randy

That's a good point Dave but why would it open the aftertouch lane (assuming it is ChanAft) even when selecting an audio track...and when I have after touch option disabled in prefs...oh wait a minute...after typing that I happened to go back and see some data in that lane for one of the tracks. This project is so old it may be before I de-selected record after touch.
The data is on a single track (one of the Garritan instances) on down the timeline from this piece (at some point I was sketching out some new ideas) but the data is greyed out and I can't delete it with the eraser tool.
Then I opened the cc1 mod lane and saw the strange uneven data in that lane (as shown in image) and decided to erase it and while it did erase it now looks greyed out like the ChanAft lane.
Another question: When all lanes are opened they show (Chan:1) after the name (like the ChanAft in the image)...is that normal?
    Thanks,
    Randy

I might have to double-check, but the way I remember it is that any change of active track in the PRV tracks pane forces a refresh/reopen of all controller lanes for all tracks currently open in the PRV (i.e. highlighted in the PRV track picker and shown in the tracks pane). Since most users record everything as channel 1 and use forced MIDI out channel assignments in the track header to control routing to a multi-timbral synth when necessary, It's common for every controller lane to show events on channel 1.

In any case, if you whack all the unwanted controller data from all tracks, and close the lanes, they should not reopen again.

    Randy,
    Just a couple of ideas:
    - have you opened up event view for each track, to look for controller events? (to delete them)

    - as a last resort, you could always try opening a new  blank project, and drag (copy) each track form your old one in to the new one (praying that the rubbish doesnt come with it...)

Just clutching at straws.here - I've had corrupted projects before - it's a pain in the butt.

Thanks Dave, that makes sense but I wonder how I should go about whacking all the unwanted controller data from the tracks.
As shown in the image above the ChanAft data is greyed out ...and the CC1 data you see there greys out after using the eraser tool on it (same color as the ChanAft lane now).
    Thanks bud,

Grayed out controllers indicate they are not on the currently active/focused track. To whack everything, select all MIDI tracks, then Edit > Select by Filter, click None to clear all selections, and then re-check only the Controllers box and OK.

What am doing wrong here...in TV I hit ctrl/A, go to edit/select/by filter, click none and then re-check only controllers and then OK.
I then go to Event List and see a gazillion notes (along with controllers).
    Thanks for the patience guys,

haha, okay...problem is there are LOTS of CC1 mod data that I don't want to delete...I'm painstakingly scrolling through and deleting the individual aftertouch and expression events...I'm hoping to be done by bedtime
It'll be worth it though if I can get rid of whatever the hell is causing the tremolo effect thingy.

You can use Select by Filter to limit the scope to specific controllers or ranges of controllers, or use the exc[lude] check box which works like a logical "Not".

For reference, here's a screenshot showing two controller lanes for each of three horn tracks with channelized events plus a Sustain Pedal lane for the Piano track. You can see that Track 5 has focus, so its controllers are shown, while other lanes are grayed out, and the sustain pedal lane is empty because the Piano track is hidden.

After about 30 minutes I gave up and said to hell with it, I'll just re-do all the mod wheel stuff and hit delete...proble still existed so I hit undo (thank god for undo!).
Anyway, I suppose I'll take this to the Garritan forum now since it's only those products (through the Aria Engine/Player) affected...I have my doubts on a solution though because there is one (of the 7 instances) that is not affected.
    Thanks again my friends,
    Randy
