'On The Edge'

Nothing new finished at the moment so I've done a remix of this song. It's one my favourites in all the projects I've been involved in. I also thought some of newer folks may not have heard Tim Wilkinson's fine voice.

https://soundcloud.com/jyemz/on-the-edge

Tim Wilkinson - vocals, acoustic guitar
Me - electric guitar, keyboards, mix

Lyrics inspired by the book 'Weirdstone of Brisingamen' by Alan Garner

The king of glass, he sleeps beneath the hill
The place is marked by an apple tree still

And I have had so many names, across the ages of the earth
But you can call me Cadellin, for what it's worth
I'm standing at an angle to the universe
On the Edge, life's on the Edge

Heartstone hides an edge so fine
Split the line with shards and nine
Tap the time with a black flint knife
Play Old Harry till it comes to life
On the Edge

I left them lying close apart
The king of glass and his men each with a frozen heart
Stone-cold effigies on the tomb of the sculptor's art
Beating the bounds of the ground they keep
Taking a deep breath, before they leap
From the Edge, Life's on the Edge

Beyond the bull-sound roar of joy
Moon-lust and the fall of Troy
The king of glass in his cave of gold
Gains his gravity, loses his hold
On the Edge

Lovely song James and so well done by the two of you as well.  Tim's acoustic playing in the intro is so precision it almost sounded like midi.

I suggest you tame the sibilance a bit more. Seems like some 3K or so is jumping out.

Funny that you are doing this now. I'm in the middle of recreating a track I did 20 years ago, thinking it would be easy, lol.

I remember this one. It is one of my favorites of those you and Tim did together. I think the new touches you've added make the track better, without changing the overall vibe of the song. Good job on this James...

Dan - thanks very much. I only made some subtle mix changes, I was going to add some drums but it killed the mood. Less is more

Mark - thanks a lot. Yes Tim has a great voice, I think this was a lower key than usual for him and it brought out a nice rasp.

David - thanks, that's nice to hear. It's a favourite song of mine, love the lyrics.

Tom - thank you. I do have a couple more from this project with Tim singing, maybe I'll give those a spruce up too.

WOW!!!! This sounds great!! Loved the guitar playing!!! The vocals remind me of Sting's vocals which happens to be one of my favorite artist/songwriters/singers of all time. And I mean that as a compliment so please don't take that any other way.

And here I was expecting a Lady Gaga remix or something...

Fortunately I was pleasantly surprised.  I really liked the arrangement - layers of guitar, synth pads and arps, and just a hint of percussion.  It gave Tim's whispery vocal a great music bed to ride over... always interesting yet never conflicting.
