On playback, I hear audio I thought was deleted

I chopped up a long recording into tunes and deleted some talk in between cuts.  I thought I deleted the clips, but when listening back, I now hear the audio, except when soloing the tracks.  What's going on here?

This is the second post within a short time with OP saying deleted tracks/clips remain in the exported file. Very interesting. I haven't got clue what it could be.

Can you actually see the deleted waveforrm (or something) on the track?

Sounds like you accidentally copied the material you thought you deleted onto another track.  That would explain why you don't hear when you solo the tracks where it was deleted.  You could set up a loop right at the problem spot and while Sonar plays the same spot over and over again Solo the first track, then second, third, etc. until you find the track that has the stuff you thought was deleted.

If you find that you accidentally bounced it in with some material you wanted to keep and you can't restore the original then you may be able to still save the day by restoring the tracks you thought you'd deleted and reversing the phase (the 'O' with a slash through it).
