On to Studio One 3 and to all a good night

Well I finally got my Studio One 3.5 cross grade installed today and after a very long download that was due to a lot of content coming with the program (a very good thing) I am now busy getting all of my audio hardware and control surfaces installed into the program.  I'm sure this will take a while to complete and then I will start my learning curve.  It looks like there is a lot of video training content available and a very good forum as well.  I want to thank everyone still in here who helped me in the past with my dumb questions and to everyone who has also gone to Studio One, I'll see you there in the Studio One forums soon.  This has been a great ride but all good things must come to and end.  Happy new year and new DAW everyone.

Well I guess that's a matter of opinion.  My post was actually thanking all of the Sonar forum members for all of the help over the years.  I guess that doesn't matter because I mentioned my new DAW

Well I must admit the installation went very well.  Almost all of my plug-ins were recognized except the addictive drums and keys.  I'll have to download those again from their website and see if that fixes it.  I am wowed by the amount of content that comes with the Pro version as well and the interface seems familiar.  Hopefully I won't miss a beat pun intended.  Thanks for the encouragement everyone.

So far the only thing in Studio One 3 I don't like is a lack of audio scrubbing.  Seems like it has been on the feature request list for quite some time too.
Today I'm going to setup my Mackie MCU control surface with the two extenders and then I'm going to try to setup my Motif Rack XS firewire connection which I was never able to make work in Sonar Platinum.  I hope all goes well

Ok well the Mackie MCU and the two extenders are set up and boy was it easy.  A couple of clicks and then I just used the "placement" button to place them as I have them on the studio desk and wahlah.  The track assignments to the 24 faders was perfect in the demo song file.  I'm trying to figure out how to get both of my MOTU 2408 devices to show up separately at the moment and then on to the Motif_Rack ES firewire setup.

I felt pretty much the same. My transition was very smooth. Now that I've added a FaderPort 8 it's like ... WOW ... where have you been all my life!!?!?!?!

Its both, not just one. You could read the slight incline as meaning the program is not deep or complex.  The program is deep and complex and there is still plenty of work to be done. Lots under the hood as they say.  So that curve is the steeper one.

But the good news is that there is also the slight incline as well which is intuitive and fast and easy and you will get started very easily.  Then when you are ready you can get onto the steeper hill and do that slowly too as you need to.

There is no massive learning curve that you have to do before you can do anything though.

Well one thing I'm finding is that help in the forum is no where near as fast as it was in here.  I've posted a couple of questions regarding my Motif-Rack firewire setup and my dual MOTU 2408 setup and so far I've gotten lots of views but no replies.  Of course it's the weekend so maybe that's it.  I searched the manual and couldn't even find the word Firewire or 1394 in it.  I know it's old technology but I hope I can get it working.

One immediate difference is that if you open a ticket you get a quick response and the support team are more than happy to set-up on-line access to your PC to troubleshoot.

Forum for Studio One is fine and there are lots of people there that will help. Just be patient. Weekend might not always be a good time. Others may be away etc.

Re: And to all a good night 2018/01/15 00:30:53 (permalink)
I will continue to use Platinum for my personal writing, but not for projects.

I took the holiday to load s1 3 pro up, and get the basic setup and vst’s (s1’s, sonars, waves) working. Then I put effort into understanding and using the CS18 / RM32 with S1 the past two weeks. This past week was getting s1 remote working and updating my production guitar rig with the H9s and Voodoo control, working with the ipads..

All I can say is sweet! I should have done this when I bought the hardware. I was waiting for Presonus to make the updates to the CS firmware so that it would work with Sonar. Duh... the DAW button on the CS makes magic happen, but that s1 remote software is killer good. I put the guitar/bass amps in a small room (bedroom - with clearsonic panels in front of the amps). It’s adjacent to the DAW room (yup - another bedroom). We setup drums in the living rooom (great sounding room). And push record anywhere within 100 feet of the house.

I can use uc surface to be in any room to setup for recording (having so many compressors, gates and the like, actually in the recording is amazing).., and performer monitoring (the artists can dial in whatever monitor mix they want - and I can monitor the monitors remotely),. I can use H9 control and the voodoo, be in any room to setup the amps and effects configuration. Then - tada - s1 remote to run the DAW or the CS18.

In short - I am addicted to the system now. Just needs a bit more work with cpu core efficiency. Your mileage may vary.

Don't know if you will see this, but if you do, there is a work around in S1 for Audio Scrubbing:

SPLAT on a Home built i3 16 GB RAM 64-bit Windows 10 Home Premium 120GB SSD (OS) 2TB Data Drive.  Behringer XR-18 USB 2.0 Interface. FaderPort control.
