One Chord

This is an instrumental I put together (about 5+ years ago) after auditioning some bass & drum loops (also used in this). It's truly a one chord instrumental that just seemed to work out and I finally made the time to mix it.

My mate, Daryl Greenway did a fantastic job in Mastering it for me.

I'd appreciate any tips on the mix as I'm slowly learning this art......btw, this was all mixed using my only H-Phones (at night when the little ones were asleep).

This does have a very nice groove, I played with a one chord tune interesting experiment.  Mix wise sounds nice here comes across as well balanced, nice bottom end, but I like a good bottom end.  Perhaps a little less reverb on the lead guitar but that can be a taste thing.

Nice job Mesh on the composition and playing, very polished mastering job from Daryl.

Interesting concept to write a tune with one chord a lot of these tend to get monotonous after a bit. I am glad to say this isn't one of them and keeps the ear of the listener, well it does for me.

    Great concept, composition and playing.

Really  a challenge to do 4+ minutes of one chord. But you pulled it off in fine fashion.

It's a really small group of songs that work well with one chord.  Run Through The Jungle is one that comes to mind... By Creedence Clearwater Revival.... key of Em..... I know there's a few more.....

Nice groove going on in this.  That certainly keeps it interesting.

Wonderful sounding production and master. Such a tasty journey, forgot about it being one chord. Salute for the outstanding playing skill and musicianship. Being that I'm looking to do some stuff like this, I find this very inspiring. Love it.

Really nice ear candy to take you along for four plus minutes. It's mixed really well, and my only wish would be for the bass to vary it up a bit, work the line a little differently on occasion. But it does bring the funk.

    nice save after 5 years!

    cheers,

I too like a nice bottom end and do like it when it stands out a bit (musically speaking)  ...... I wasn't sure how well the mix translated on speakers (on mine, it was a bit bass heavy). Thanks for listening and the kind words.

LOL Synkro....thanks & yes, finally set up my SoundCloud acct. and Aye Aye Capt., will get a working!!!

@Adrian: Thanks for listening/commenting mate.....interestingly, I hadn't planned on writing a "one chord" song, but it just naturally evolved into it after I kept jamming along with the bass/drum grooves (or I was just bloody lazy to make any chord changes at the time...lol). BTW, I listened to a few of your tracks yesterday, but didn't have a chance to leave a comment....will revisit tonight. :)

@Herb: Yeah, without vocals, I just have to make it up with guitar parts to carry the tune...thanks Herb.

@Grant: Thanks my brother for the kind compliments. I tells ya, some of these plugins out there can just do wonders, and even make my noises sound good. :))

@Tom: It means a lot to hear you (as well as others here) enjoyed the mix as your work is top shelf material (especially your attentions to the bass details) and I value your comments. I agree, some variation on the bass would've enhanced the groove and I should learn how to cut/chop/dice/ginsu these nice sounding loops.

@Daryl: All of this was only possible because you worked your Mastering magic on this........thanks again mate!!

Just left a comment on SC...   if this is just one chord, then you've pulled it off well 'cause it sure sounds like a heck of a lot more!   The rhythm section is grooving nicely with a good funk edge, and I particularly enjoyed the guitar parts laid over top.   Very enjoyable.

    Thanks Steve.
Technically, yeah it's 2 chords, but the whole grove always stayed on Cm. Regarding the guitar parts, I did use Melodyne on one of the acoustic lead clips to get a little harmony added to the mix.

This song isn't really my preferred style of music, so I'll have to start working on my next song......should be within Quiet Riots "bang your head" hard rock theme.

@jmasno5: Very glad to hear you're digging it (although It was a bass loop, it kept the song grooving along.....next time, I should get a real bass player like you to play and then we'd be right in the funk...lol). The "Pro" sound was all due to my good mate Daryl who mastered it.

It's not how many chords you play, but how you play the chords.

This is a well built tune. Nice guitar playing, and the bass is just right.  I also like the choice of synth sounds.  This is a nice one to jam to, I had to get my guitar and have a go along with you.  Fun!

@ Kenny: Thanks for listening and commenting Kenny. I used to watch the A Team and I bet someone is probably saying this to me:

@ Jesse: I appreciate the compliments and very glad to see you jamming with it........that's how I felt about it too....lol.

@ Tom: Thanks Tom for the comments. I never thought of putting a vox on it as it was just a jam session, but I'm game if anyone wants to throw some vox on it.
