One Of Those Tough Spots That Might Be About To Have A Cure
I've got a vocal track that I'm using the PC on for tube, comp, and hi-pass filter... But I need to gate the cans out of it... and I would prefer to have the gate before the tube, but I also want a ddl after all the mentioned devices... I know I have ways around this issue so I will get it done, but as I can't insert vst's between PC devices, and there's only one fx bin (before OR after the PC), I can't get both plugins working in the way I usually do... Some option are to replace the CP (easiest), Or use the gate prePC and use a post send to the ddl on a bus instead of an insert (a pain for me in this situation)... So I really wish Expanded would raise it's pretty little head... But today's today, and I don't know when to expect it, so I've gotta replace my setup now.... Too bad... but there will be a next time... Keni

I hear you Keni! At least Sonar does provide you ways (although not straight-forward) to work around this short-coming by switching to using VST plugs (not PC, but at least you have an option). Tom

With a buss you do have a down stream FX bin. So you can have FX bin- PC- FX bin in that order.

Rather than gating the cans out you could always automate a volume envelope to remove it.

Yea Keni, ol pal. Why gate when you can just cut or automate?

Thanks guys... I usually edit every clip to remove the noise, but as I did some v-vocal edits earlier in the process than I usually do, I don't want to re-do all the work... That's why the issue came up. I rarely need gates these days as I do usually edit out the noise... As to using a bus for the secondary processing? Sure, I could do that but it was as easy (easier for me) to use an aux send as I always did in the analog days... ;-) I was just thinking how this will be easier when there's a gate in the PC... Thanks again... Keni

Just think how easy it would've been if you'd never used PC in the first place. There would be no "problem" to deal with now. Still, I'd bounce any v-vocal edits and then cut out the background noise.

Yes, I could have used all vst's instead of PC, but I'm starting to like it... As to the send to buss? Yes, a send goes to a buss... but it's an AUX send not an inline device... I could have done either... Expanded will help situations such as this (if the gate is as good or better than the Bias Gate that I use... Thanks again gang... Keni

Although I don't use gates very often either, for some reason I'm looking forward to having a PC version. I can't explain why, but maybe it's because the idea of having a gate along with EQ, compression and saturation just seems "natural". Whatever, I'm looking forward to it too!
