One Original & one new Pearl Jam cover

I have a couple new songs up.    The original I have posted once before but I had to re-write the lyrics & the mix/master was completely redone.  I found my problem in that mix....  I was trying to hard to push the LOWS in the bass guitar & it was sitting on the kick & adding mudd to the whole mix.  once I got the bass a little more punchy with the high mids (which works well for this genre) my whole mix started falling into place.   I play guitar on both, sing lead on the original & Back vox on Evenflow.  http://www.reverbnation.com/#!/wallowsound

on the 1st song, there's something about the sound of those guitars that could be improved, perhaps w/EQ and verb. Sounds like "Got another ****" was cathartic :-) I was raised Cathardic? But I'm not currently practicing. I like this song.

The second tune, I like the guitar tone better. but they sound a little bit muddy? And the vocals need clarity, those guitars are fighting with the vox in the same spectrum and the same field.  And the dumbs need some serious RX on this one.

I agree about the guitar tones (in your comments about both songs)  Not sure what you mean by Cathartic Robby?  By the Dumbs do you mean the drums?

    Yeah, he means drums.
"You're even a **** in my dreams'. Great Line.
How are you set up for recording? This sounds like it was recorded with a single room mic.
The track is all coming down the middle, and the snare in particular is suffering. It's totally awash in room ambiance.
Guitar tone isn't too bad, and vocal performance is fine, but you need to give everything its own sonic space. Even a few degrees of separation will help immensely. Some isolation and EQ will help. The drums need a lot of help.
W9ith Evenflow, the guitar seems to have some width, but it still sounds monophonic. And the bass is running all over everything else. You've got a good take on the Vetter vox.
For future reference, it might be best to post just one song at a time.
That way we can keep the discussion focused, and hopefully help you the best we can.

The vocal is good but the instruments are covering it. Good energy.

    Robert B,
Thank you for the review.  The drums are actually my V kit, recorded midi then (Later)  I sent the midi back to the drum brain & recorded each piece to it's own track.   I do have the toms, & cymbals panned out a bit,   the Vocals, bass guitar, kick, & snare are all sitting dead center.  The rest is panned out one way or another to varying degrees.  I am not sure what else to do with it?

"Get Another ****"  Great song and great vocals too.  You need to widen your guitar: clone a track and add little delay.  Also add some eq on it also tow cut off some of the low end.  In that way it reduces some of the muddiness.  You may want to boost the mid range on the guitar also to add some warmth.  I also hear some noise through out the track, clipping perhaps?

"Evenflow"  The guitars are wider here and it could be wider or maybe add another guitar, but you need to add some EQ to reduce the muddiness.  You have such a great voice.

Even Flow; vocal sounds like it's in a can. Compression or Room Noise? Not sure which. Should be brought forward and isolated. Hard to say if it's a good vocal, though I suspect it's pretty good. Mr Vedder is not the easiest to make sound good. Music sounded pretty good.

Original Song: That You' drive me crazy - melody sounds very familiar. Is it a 'borrow' from a BB song or 3 Days Grace?

I like the song. Not much to say about it, it sounds pretty good.

There are pitch issues here and there, mostly flat on specific notes. I suspect that's strength or discipline issue. Because you're spot on in the hard part, then when you go to relieve your through you fall flat for a a note...anyways. Good work.

The original is a good song, well played. You sang it well, with passion. It is a tad long, though. If I were you I would get this under 4 mins.
Unfortunately, the mix is a complete mess. All I could hear was the rumble of my sub. Not enough mids, nothing gluing the >500hz with the <80hz. And when I footswitched the sub off, the whole song sounded paper thin. Where is the kick?

Though similar issues where present in Evenflow, the guitars are terrific and I think a much needed improvement over the original (which I loved, but always hated that poseur grunge sound).

Vechung:  Thank you for your suggestions & compliments, I will give them a try.

RuralRocker:  On Evenflow, yeah I had to comp the vocas fairly hard & perform surgical cuts all over the eq as this one was sung by the actual singer of my new project.  While it's not nearly so pronounced live, when recorded he comes through very nasal on a LDC mic.

On the original, I am sure it sounds familiar as I have posted an earlier version before.   The song was originally about being with a horrible woman, I extracted the inspiration from some family members, they figured it out & freaked.   The song was then re-written & alot was changed to make it about being with a cheating horrible woman who is now completely hypathetical.  Any resemblance to actual persons is completely coincidental.....   However, "you driveme crazy...", & the line "your even a b*tch in my dreams"  were kept from the original version which you have heard & commented on before hence the familiarity.   Doen't suprise me that I was flat here & there re-tracking the vocals on this one.   I loved the old lyrics & while these are ok, the song is not what it was,  I was not happy to have to re-do it at all.

Jamesyoyo:  I realized the guitars still sound a bit thin, I still have lots to learn with mixing/mastering.   These are the two best ixes I think I have put out yet, I am sorry to hear it sounds like such utter crap on your system, I thought it was translating better than that.  Obviously not.  It's a a little discoraging to hear.  I know they weren't perfect, but I didn't think it was a "mess".     On evenflow, I have a double track for each guitar, one panned out hard, one not quite so far (Left & the other tracks are the same to the right).  Then I wanted more & added the vx64 vocal plug to the guitar bus & used just the doubler to make them sound bigger & send thm further out in the stereo field. May be an unconventional way to do it, but it was an experiment that I liked the sound of & kept.
