One Project Playing Up

Everything else here seems to be okay, except one project.

Preparing for a singer to come in and work on one of my songs -  46 tracks, audio and softsynths, I have frozen all the tracks, just to be on safe side.

There is a delay of a second or two after pressing play before the project starts to play back, and the audio engine is dropping out if I change screensets whilst the project is running.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

That should not be happening. Do you have any plugins loaded?

jb: Have you ever altered your read/write cache settings? I believe the default is 256 but I have mine set to 512 because of the large projects I do. Maybe yours is set to 128 perhaps? If so, check that out and try increasing it.

Screen set drop out: I get that in one project. The Cori Yarckin demo that Sonar gives us. It's the only project that does this to me...so it's definitely project dependent as far as the screen set change wreaking havoc. It matters not what box I run it on....and, it only does this in X2. The same project in X1, not a single drop out during a screen set. Not sure what the deal is there.

I read something about a floppy drive being in your bios being listed as "enabled" causing issues with screen sets. Those who have disabled it (due to not having floppy drives) have noticed screen set behavior is pefect. I don't have that option enabled in my bios and never have any screen set issues other than the one project.

But your audio drop out could just need a higher buffer in the I/O settings. See if it helps. It will also take the load off your hard drive for audio and will probably drop your usage down to like 10 % or lower. I run all mine at 512 in both of those boxes and don't check the box for read/write caching...just change the numerical value in both of those boxes to be the same. Good luck brother.

    Thanks for your replies.

@ John - I've frozen all the tracks and disabled any plugs (Concrete Limiter etc) in the busses.

@ Danny - I'll check those settings and see if anything improves.  I've not had problems with screensets before.  I also have bigger projects that run okay, even without freezing anything. It's odd.  The delay in playback is odd, and only in this project, too.

Thank you both again for your input, I'll keep playing around with it.

jb - if you're going to be tracking your vocalist, it might be a good idea to bypass ALL your plugins (just hit 'E') and see if the latency goes away.

    Thanks for replying, Bristol Jonesey.

That's what I don't understand - everything is frozen, all plugs in busses disabled, so no plugs working and no latency.

The singer could hear himself without latency, there was just a second or two delay (felt like forever) after hitting play before the project started.

I'll have a play around tonight and try all these suggestions, when I get back from casting pearls..

JB I wish I had an answer for you. Playing just audio and no plugins shouldn't be taxing your computer at all unless its a HD issue.
