The lyric is very good, It. The tune is catchy, I'd like to hear it up about 10 BPM.  Thats just me though. The mix is right on the money, as is the playing of every one.  I could hear every thing well. Sounds pro to me

    Hey FRANK
GREAT production and tune.  Money well spent on the DW's IMO.  I'm listening on computer speakers so I really can't help you much on the mix. During the body of the song I couldn't hear if Dave was playing side stick or brushes on the snare. If Dave was doing one of those two it was hard to hear in the mix. During the chrous when he was hitting the head of the snare it was spot on sounding.  Frank, I don't know what kind of mic's your using but AKG has a new rhythm pack that I hear isn't bad for the money.

This has all the elements of a good Nashville recording. The vibe that I get is that this was a fun song to record. That comes through real well. I think the nuts and bolts of this song are just right. Way to go.

I like it Frank. I can't make serious mix comments. It's loud! The LVX are maybe a smidgen too out front. And that lead guitar is pretty bright! But again, I'm on the notebook speakers... I'm going to try do something about that by next week so I can listen in the cans.

Thanks for listening and commenting Terry, Kev and Lynn...

Kev... I'm using the CAD TSM411's on the toms and a larger CAD on the kick... Sure SM57 on the snare... Toms are gated with the quad dbx274, and the kick & snare have the dbx266XL compressor/gates inserted... I'm micing the cymbals with a couple of old sony ecm22p condensers...  lots of tweeking... its a process...

This is'nt my regular genre, but I totally agree...10BPM would be good, then use that sweet guitar tone on an extended chicken pickin solo.

Drums too soft overall!  Compare to some Merle Haggard.  Check this out:

Love the tune Frank. David does a great job all around. Were you guys cloned at birth or somethin?

As far as the mix (on a laptop), to me everything sounds too compressed (maybe not the voc) and that lead guit is way compressed and very bright and loud. I always like more drums. They seem pretty soft in this.

I love the chicken pickin country fills. Wonderful. They just bite my head off.

All that said, and as I said, I'll say again. I'm on a lappy. Just sayin:)

I think the tempo is just right.  imho.  The production, instruments and vocals sound great on the monitors.  I guess I don't have a good enough ear to know if something's overcompressed.  It has a very clean sound and everything fits from left to right.  Maybe I'll listen in earphones.  I now have great earphones and great monitors, compared to what I had last year.  Even I sound better on them.  LOL!

    Hi Frank,

As always, I never seem to agree with the majority of comments people make...so don't ever listen to me. :)

I think the mix was quite good all across the board other than two critical things.

    1. I definitely hear a bit too much sub low going on that just didn't sound right for this type of material. It's controlled sub low, so you did good there...but to me, it just seems a bit too low endy for this tune. Keep in mind, it's not a bad/improper low end...it's just extra sub in there that was just a wrong choice for the material in MY opinion.

    2. During the guitar solo, there are a few little clicks going on...so something is clipping somewhere. It seems to happen when you really attack a note.

I felt the tempo was fine, drums were fine...soft works for this tune. If there are rim shots in the beginning before the drums totally kick in, it's tough to hear them. Sometimes more of a drum presence isn't the right call in a tune like this. It's subjective really. All of it is. But to me, I'd definitely at least have a listen for the two things I mentioned because I felt they were the most important to talk about....at least from my end. Great job man!

Good song, Frank, and, as usual, the performances were excellent.

Maybe it's just me or the pc speakers I was listening on, but the mix overall felt a mite bright to me, the guitar in particular.  Seeing as I was already on your Soundclick page, I listened to a piece of 'The Stage' for comparison, and it (the mix) sounded like 'warmer' to me.  Is this making any sense?  I don't know how else to describe it, but, this being a soft-ish ballad, it just felt like it should have felt warmer or more intimate... just my opinion or taste, whatever we call it.

Still, an excellent job and a good listen.

    Hey Frank!

Nice work on this. Nice performances all around by both of you.

My ears could be deceiving me, but the drums and bass seem to lack definition. The guitar fills are very bright and edgy and could use a bit of EQ taming IMO.

The vocal needs more compression and presence, on the cans I had a hard time following it against that twangy guitar.
I would think to beef up the lower mids to combat some of the brightness/thinness others have mentioned.

    Love the song, btw...

Sounds fantastic Frank. Love the rolling along feel, the 'Twin Peaks' low trem gtr, the Jerry Donahue style lead guitar and the Hammond is perfectly judged to herald the choruses.

I did notice some excessive brightness or clipping in the gtr solo as Danny mentioned.

The old mix just came on while I was typing this. Yup, helluva re-work. the latest mix sound much improved.

Still a kick ass and well played song in both version, tho

    Hi Frank,

    Good tune.  Superb playing.

I like the new mix pretty much, but I like the sound of the voice and the main guitar better in the old mix.  They both sound a bit harsh in the new mix.  The balance and the energy is better in the new mix, but not the sound on these 2 things, IMO.

    Very enjoyable tune Frank.

    Peace,

    Ian
