One down...

During the night of the 29th, we had to bring our oldest (and diabetic) cat to the emergency. She'd been going through rough patches every few months but this time she'd really reached an all time low and when we saw that she wasn't even touching her wet food, we realized that this was probably much much worst than any of the previous times.

Originally, the vet wanted to keep her for a few days an run a bunch of tests - which would have amounted to $3500. That's a lot of money for a 15 year old cat with already diagnosed health issues, so we opted for only one night and the most urgent tests for starters - which still cost us a decent amount. Next morning they called us with an update. Problems with kidneys, liver, bladder - on top of her pancreatic issues/diabetes. She also had an alarmingly high white blood cell count, which possibly meant cancer.

So we had to say our goodbye to her and have her put to sleep. She was in my wife's lap and the whole thing was pretty devastating - more so because this one was THE cat for my wife. 15 years together is quite a long time.

She really was the sweetest, most affectionate animal I've seen in my life - almost as if she wanted to be part of you. She always wanted to be as close as possible to us.

Our usual vet called us yesterday after reading the reports - she wouldn't even have suggested that we'd go through all the tests and treatments the other vet first suggested. $$$ Talking

I guess it was somewhat comforting for my wife to have a vet confirm that we'd taken the right decision.

I usually deal w/ death relatively well most of the time but seeing my wife so sad just breaks my heart.

Sorry to hear that Rain. You definitely did the right thing though. It's the kindest thing we can do for a pet at that stage.
