Fun shall be had this evening...

James, I JUST got the same exact thing from a client of mine like 2 weeks ago. He gave it to me for my birthday. Wait until you listen to that CD with the examples on it....I'm still sitting here scratching my head on how the guy created some of that stuff. I even went on Youtube to check out how they were doing it.

Unfortunately, though there are good examples in Youtube, NONE of them top what that lunatic on the CD is doing. I literally sat there saying about 50 times "are you kidding me with this?!" Let me know if you get any further than me. I'm making sounds with it...but nothing worth bragging about. LOL! It's definitely going to take me some time to pick this up.

Just hitting that sweet spot is a nightmare for me let alone moving it from string to string. It's one of the hardest things I've ever tried. Messed with it for about 3 days straight and am no further than I was when I opened it. LOL! I gotta be doing something wrong. I hope you fair better than me brother. I thought it would be easy with a little practice...I'm going bald over here. LOL!

    Ok here we go...

You need an Lbow to even use it
You need an obow for accompaniment
You need a Tbow if you want a more sports approach
If you get good with it you will be a showbow!
Be careful not to scratch your Ibow with the Ebow.
Cbow or Vbow might be French words.

Yep.. after an hour I can do the solo from Deep Purple's 'Fools' on one string, but I can't change strings without it making a noise like a yapping dog!

    This could take some time...

Wookiee, I'd love that if I could get sound out of the thing. I can do little things, but as soon as you move the thing to change strings, it sounds like I'm abusing someone...or some thing. LOL! Then it's hard to find that spot again where it allowed you to get sound out of it.

I've never been more frustrated other than when I've tried to bow a violin. I can't believe how challenging this little Ebow is. Then you have this guy showing you examples on the CD....where he sounds like he's playing Yngwie Malmsteen! (famous Swedish shred guitarist that fused classical themes with rock/metal calling it "neo-classical")

Not that I want to play like that, but I can't figure out how he could move the Ebow so fast while keeping it so clean. It's really mind-boggling. No one on Youtube is doing anything remotely close to the stuff on the little mini disc I got that came with the Ebow. This guy even played the entire Eleanor Rigby string section with the thing and doesn't make any scratchy noises or weird sounds like I'm getting.

This is definitely an amazing little thing.....I just can't get it to stop sounding like I'm torturing someone/something. I'm afraid my neighbors are gonna call the cops on me at this rate. LOL! I'm really serious...I can't believe how challenging this has become for me.

I've had an Ebow for years, but I only make strange noises with it.  Come to think of it, that about describes my guitar playing as well...

It definitely motivated me to get a Sustainer though.  Little did I know that what I should have bought was a Sustainiac because they (Sustainiac) have great customer service while Fernandes (Sustainer) absolutely blows monkey nuts.  Plus, the Sustainer is just a licensed old version of a Sustainiac anyway (found that out way too late).  So, the Sustainer got sold and, eventually, I want to get this portable version of the Sustainiac that you can clamp on the headstock of any guitar and not have to modify it.

I ordered one, but due to my dyslexia, I am now the proud owner of an elbow.

I suppose I could bash my strings with it.

And the elbow might come in useful too.

Little progress update for Danny - turning the guitar volume down to 5 drastically reduces the amount of noise when changing strings.

Unless you need to have one permanently installed (and taking the place of at least one pickup - usually there are two parts), then check out the clamp-on version that you can use with any guitar without doing any modifications.  Good for recording anyway - you'll probably want to have a permanent solution for live use.

Thanks James, yeah I tried that also. When you use gain, you can't use much that's for sure. I still can't do any of this...this dude is out of his tree. LOL! I'm a very clean player...I can't get close to this as long as I'm using that Ebow. This is so clean, he doesn't make one squeek or noise...this is where I just can't nail it. As soon as I move that thing, I either can't find the right spot or I make so much noise it doesn't matter what I play with the left hand. Hahaha!

I know Craig and what really stinks is, you can look for things on Youtube all night...none of them do anything like the examples in that clip I posted. A few were sort of close, but they didn't nail it like whoever that maniac is playing on that. LOL! The Beatles thing was really cool too...like for example, they have a little demo of all the sounds you can get out of it. Wait, let me post it up.
