One of those days with a happy ending - sort of
So, I decided to do some maintenance today. Backup and archive. File removal. Defrag. You know, the usual stuff. But my external backup drive wasn't working. Reach around the back of the console to check the power plug, and the whole top of my work console broke backwards. Monitors (screens), interface, compressors, pre-amps, all the bits and pieces 'neatly' placed, lamps etc, everything, on the floor behind in a twisted, sickening, pile of cables and broken glass. And in the middle of a restore point backup to boot (no pun intended). My studio monitors are on stands behind, so luckily, they escaped, but everything else, including the PC which had it's cables neatly pulled out mid stride, well, bit the dust !! Anyway, 7 hours odd later, all working except the interface, but I think it's some PC issue. I'll get to that tomorrow. The console top is now bolted to the desk. Try that again ya sucker !!! I needed to redecorate and set things up differently, but I didn't quiet have this in mind. I'd like to share the love I feel for home studio work.................but I have none right now......

On the bright side of things, these events can offer an opportunity to clean up all that dust that accumulates over the years. Maybe organize the wires a bit. You should see the mess behind my home entertainment system components. Someday I hope to clean it up but hope an event like yours does not instigate that incentive. Glad nothing catastrophic occurred and you are back in business.

Yep. Your right. And the weird things is, the day before, I decided I needed to move things around, do some more acoustic treatment, and had decided to buy Ozone7 Advanced, with the aim to get more involved in the mastering side of things. So, yeah, in a way, it began the process today lol!! Still trying to 'unhear' the crash in my head though. Luckily it was the china collector pieces that had all my picks in them, rather than the monitors, which are, after all, mainly plastic now. I really thought I had smashed a monitor or two at first. Very relieved......

Glad to hear nothing catastrophic took place, and you can get back to the important stuff.....backing up. BTW, I also got Ozone 7 Advanced (Production Bundle), but have yet to (learn to) use it.....happy to (finally) have a mastering suite.

I'm looking at the bundle too. Seems worth it. There's some good training support by the looks of things, and everyone seems very happy. Now, to make it pay for itself

Have you already boughtt O7 Advanced? If not, you can get it for 150 euros over at KVR right here: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=454036&hilit=ozone+7+advanced Jeezo, the guy selling it is also a Sonar member (Zo) here and is an audio instructor (thus the multiple licenses for sale). I bought the Production Bundle from him and I'm sure you can probably get it for around 200 euros.

I can't say anything, about six months I had almost the exact same thing happen except it took my monitors with it. The only difference was that I ended up being the cushion between everything and the wall because I caused the problem while on the back side - ow!

When they say you should spread your monitors so the sounds hits your evenly, I don't think that's what they quite meant Must admit, I always knew the balance, was, well, dodgey. I bought two sony bookshelf speakers, removed all the bracing between the desk and the upper shelf, and set the shelf back on the two speakers. The intention was to use them for mono listening, but they were never good enough. But it was never screwed back down. Now, the speakers are bolted to the desk, and the shelf bolted to the speakers. But to sacrifice yourself. I'm impressed

Well, that was positive action by yourself, so you join the club too Jesse. I admit, I was less than positive in the few moments or so after the crash. And a little outspoken too if I remember.......
