It's like one big, normal in it's dysfunction, family. Like, dislike, agreement, disagreement, joy, pain, rage, forgiveness, misery and laughter. It's all the better for that. It would get no mileage from just being a thick-layer of socially agreeable veneer and insincerity or an endless list of gags (good word btw). And in the immortal words of one of our brethren, "When McQ is working your last nerve, it's all your fault"... It's actually truer than it sounds as iif someone else is a problem to me it is in fact MY problem. Good job Beag, as often the 'bigger' man! I like Beagles.

Hi Reece, Thank you very much for the gesture of friendship. What can I say? I'm a bit embarrassed to have this dialog publicly but I very much appreciate the idea that you have suggested that we can move forward and make the best of our friendship. I'd like to enjoy everyone's company here because I appreciate the sense of community that occurs here and I appreciate the opportunity for me to learn through discussions. I have been trying to provide less of the sarcastic instigation I have become known for and I sincerely hope that people will come to trust that not every post I make is intended to seem sarcastic. I acknowledge that I have brought a lot of this about with my own actions and I hope I can also demonstrate that I value the community and the sense of camaraderie in a way that continues to grow friendship amongst the members that frequent this forum. In closing, I'd like to apologize for making things seem so disagreeable. Thanks again Reece. very best regards, mike

Thank you Mike! your response was much more than I had hoped for! With what you have said I will from this point forward look at your posts without the disdain which I had began to have because of the period of time you were "instigating sarcasm" and read with fresh eyes as if you are sincere in every post and let your record stand (from my point of view) as if the past did not happen so that we can only react to each other without bias of that past. I do value your friendship here and look forward to continuing "fresh." again, thank YOU, Mike. your post here has renewed my enthusiasm for "net friendships."

Cool response Mike, it actually stated something, rather than merely offering an ambiguous clue. It is so much easier to deal with something that is said than something that is merely implied. It is especially important when communicating on a medium that completely relies on expression through the written word. Unless of course it is ones intention is to create mystery and misunderstanding.

BTW Mike - I also apologize if discussing this publicly is uncomfortable. I did not intend to make you uncomfortable about it, I simply thought it was necessary to include everyone who has seen our interchanges to understand that I do sincerely apologize for my behavior.

Beagle to Bub, ampfixer and anyone else who was offended by my behavior: I apologize to you as well. I will do my best to behave in a more civilized manner. No problem and thanks. It's not one specific thing (example, this thread title), it's a bunch of little things. I don't see the comradery that used to be here, and since I haven't changed (or at least I don't think I have, well, if anything for the better since I've had a few incredibly serious burdens lifted off me these past 2 years), it starts to make me think, gee, maybe I did something to offend someone and didn't realize it? I have done that before here and in real life ... I'm kind of thick headed sometimes. It's funny, I'll sit here sometimes for 10 - 20 minutes to type a reply so I word it in a non-offending way. It's stupid to do that, but hey, that's how I am. And half the time someone gets upset anyway, especially upstairs. People seem to get so upset so quickly and at the silliest things. Not saying I'm innocent by any stretch, but some of the arguments I see, that started over misunderstandings (especially upstairs), then when you try to make the person understand that they misunderstood ... they get more pissed, and it all snowballs. I'm just tired of it and don't have time for it any more. Honestly ... how many times have you (not meaning Beagle, but everyone) have you got in to it with someone upstairs because they misunderstood, and when you try to say, "Hey wait, go back and read, you misunderstood." some other idiot comes along and attacks you, based off the guys reply that misunderstood while not even reading what you originally said ... and it just snowballs? Then when you say you don't want to argue, they attack you personally. Or somebody says something but were thinking something else, but stands by what they were thinking, even though they posted something else, and get pissed at you anyway for taking what they put in print as what they meant. It happens to me a lot, and to others that I just read and watch the show. I'm just sick and tired of it and don't want any part of it any more up there or down here ... or in the real world either for that matter. I already apologized, twice, in two other threads, but what the heck, I'll throw it in here too ... I apologize (for the third time) if I've said something to anyone that may have offended. I've really been going out of my way to avoid getting in to it with anyone here and sometimes that comes off as being passive aggressive and pisses people off even more. Nothing I can't stand more than a passive aggressive *itch. *itch not being directed toward females, but, well, here I go trying not to be offensive to women. Everyone knows what I mean ... Ey yi yi. I gotta get out of here ...

that's why I rarely venture upstairs. the atmosphere is very different and I often get into the same situations that you describe. you have not offended me (at least not lately! ) down here has been tenser than normal, I'll agree, but nothing we can't get past. a few months ago it was WWIII down here and we got thru that and moved on.

What I believe (Ahem): 1. We should be allowed to get a little annoyed with Mike each other at times for whatever reason. No big deal. 2. Beagle We should be allowed to get a little snippy at times for whatever reason. No big deal. 3. We should be allowed to criticize one another. Sometimes it might even be warranted (I'm excluding drewfx1 here of course). 4. We shouldn't take stuff too seriously here. Duh. 3. We should be free to make occasional counting errors here without fear of repercussion. 5. "Thin skin" and CH don't necessarily mix well. But there's no reason to deliberately poke someone in a sensitive area either. Keep your hands off my sensitive areas! (I already have plans for them, thank you very much.) 6. I should eventually be able get over being offended that Bub doesn't even remember what he did to offend me. 7. In case you didn't know, as a rule I will generally only bust someone's chops if I actually like them. I believe this is a good policy, because if you can't trash talk your pathetic, ridiculous, pinheaded friends, what's the point? 8. When it comes it personal differences, I don't generally care who's right. But I do care if the folks involved are "good people" or not (and conduct themselves as such). Luckily, as we have seen, the "good people" part is rarely a problem here (except for you know who, of course).
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

A really good thread. I really like the idea that issues can be adressed in the open and those that choose to can learn from the feelings that come up during the course of our interactions. It's how a good family stays healthy and I'm sure it applies in the wider community too rather than having chinese whispers creating factions behind the scenes, or stuffing down true feelings with insincere niceties and distracting 'gags'. To my mind if something came from here, here is where it belongs.
