Opening Old Projects

I'm determined to get this to work, with the ultimate aim of abandoning 8.5

A number of you will already be familiar with my reported problems loading 8.5 & older projects into X1, and having read many suggested workarounds, the one that seems to work is this:

1 - Open old project in Safe Mode
2 - Enable all plugins with the exception of the Sonitus EQ
3 - Rebuild the EQ

Now, so far so good, but there's a small hiccup.

The intention is to use the EQ section in the Pro Channel to re-create the EQ, but whenever I select a track that has an instance of the built in Sonitus EQ from 8.5, Pro Channel turns round and says "You are currently using the Sonitus:fx EQ on this channel. To upgrade to the new Pro channel EQ, discard the Sonitus :fx EQ by Control + click on this button"

So......why can't I see this Sonitus EQ anywhere?

It doesn't show anywhere in X1's UI.

Any thoughts people?

Have you tried loading Sonitus in the FX bin?

It's hidden. If you double click the EQ graph it should pop up when it's loaded - which it's not in your case.

The old inline EQ is only accessable in X1 via the EQ plot control in the track inspector. The eq plot allows you to manipulate the same controls that were available in 8.5's built in eq via the plot control. You can click and drag to change the eq bands.
    Alt drag changes the Q.
Use the Shift modifier while dragging for fine control.

You can also get to the sonitus eq window by double clicking the eq plot.

Excellent. That clears up my first problem.

Now, here's the second, albeit closely related.

In 8.5, my approach to EQ was to use the Inline EQ for basic HPF & LPF filtering.
All of my tonal shaping was done via an instance (or 2) of the Sonitus in the FX Bin.
This is because sometimes I want to EQ after I compress, sometimes before, various reasons.

So, if I were to replicate my EQ settings in the Inline EQ, then delete the Sonitus from the Fx Bin, would these settings then be replicated in the Pro Channel after importing into X1C?

I'm just trying to find a way to avoid having to manually make a note of every single instance of the Sonitus EQ in 8.5 projects so I can continue working with them in X1C.

There must be many hundreds of instances of the Sonitus in my projects, and the thought of having to manually re-create these is something I'd rather not think about.

If I understand you correectly, then I'm afraid the answer is: "no".

But you can keep the Sonitus EQ in there for most tracks if they sound good, and replace the Sonitus EQ with PC EQ on specific tracks like vocals, kicks etc. Saves you some time and you won't loose too much time

X1 is fully backwards compatible with the inline eq from 8.5 so if you save a project from there with the eq enabled X1 will bring in the eq settings intact. You can manage the eq settings in X1 as I described earlier. If you then want to switch to the new Prochannel eq at a later time you will have to try and match the eq settings manually with the new eq, But simply loading an 8.5 project will sound identical.

    Thanks for chiming in Noel.

Unfortunately, I'm one of the small group of individuals who cannot simply load up older projects into X1 and be good to go.

X1 will consistently and repeatedly crash, no matter how the original project is opened.

I tried again last night wit the X1C update, and the only way to circumvent the crashing is by doing a selective start up and excluding the Sonitus from the project.

What I will do though is try and load one onto my Win7 laptop. If it loads up there ok then it's definitely time for an upgrade to my main Daw, which will NOT please 'her indoors'

Have you submitted a problem report with a project attached? We can look into it and find out why that is happening.

No, haven't done that, though I guess I can always try one and see what you guys can do with it.
