Opening a 44.1k/16bit project in 48k/24bit

This will work OK, right?  It's just the other way around where the problems arise...is my understanding...?

I'll be working on projects initially in 44.1/16 - just softsynths with associated midi files (no rendered or frozen audio) and a single audio track with a scratch vocal...

Then transfering it to the other machine in 48/24 for final recording of vocal and guitar tracks and rendering of softsynths, mixing and file exports.

I haven't tried a sample transfer yet...as I wanted to get your advice first...thanks folks.

Not sure why you'd want to do things this way unless the files were old or the first machine can't be swapped out or reconfigured etc... perhaps an localized interface limitation etc. Anyway, biggest suggestion I can make is to ensure you have back ups! I've got this situation now with an older project in 44.1/24 that used to play fine in 8.5.3, after trying it out in X1 (initial release), it is now corrupt somewhere in that it now has crackles back in 8.5.3 after trying the X1 loads. When you drop a single file into X1, it does recalc the file for the sample rate change and plays fine so it is certainly more than doable. There are probably others who have done this a lot more than I have and have a workflow for it. Also your playback device will need to be changed to 48/24 but you're prolly on top of that one. Hope it works out well for you. It's certainly more than possible, just not desirable. Cheers.

no, it won't work. Not unless you start a new project file and import that wavs into it.

Yes, it will probably be more hassle than it is worth as well. Thank you both for helping me sort this out.______I got this to solve the problem:_______Roland UA-1G $69 at Sweetwater.
