Operating System

Hi all -
I'm changing my drives and upgrading Sonar to 'Platinum'.
I am very uncertain about whether to stay with Windows 7.
I am actually returning to song making and am a bit out
of the OS loop.
What current experiences are people having?

You'll get a different answer from every different person. But myself given a chioce I stay with W7 64 bit for my DAW. Even though I'm actually using W8.1.
W 8.1 was cheaper to buy than 7 so that's what happened to me. But if you still have your ligit copy of W7 I would use it. I'm not going with W10 until a year goes by and there is zero issues.

Staying on 7 makes sense, at least until you get Platinum working well.  Doing a DAW and an OS upgrade at the same time might be a bit much to chew.

I'm still on Win 7 with my main daw but I've upgraded my other 2 systems without issue.

This maybe luck, I'd stay on Win 7 if it was me, it's a great OS

Don't be uncertain. Upgrade to Win10 as late as possible and make sure you have a backup strategy with something like acronis trueimage.

Don't thought get in a situation whereby you end up with a unsupported OS with Sonar.

I  have windows 10 but I am still using Sonar X3e, I thought several times about upgrading to Platinum but just haven't done it yet.  I guest the way I feel about Platinum is the way you feel about Windows 10.

I've been running Win 10 for a while without issue. Eventually you will be faced with an upgrade and if you want the free upgrade, you have less than a year. But as Kevin said, don't do 2 upgrades at once! And have a rollback strategy when you eventually do upgrade.

Agree with all of the above... Have fun getting back into the creative process... the worst thing is to have endless or periodic dysfunctions frustrate your efforts.  Most of us have been there.  Why complicate this journey? Win7 64 is a totally stable and well worn operating system...

BTW, echo... you should update your "sig" to reflect your system specs like most of us around here.  It helps in getting answers to issues that crop up for u.

Enjoy the revival!  Music is a window into the hearts of others.  Create amazing stuff!
