Opinions Needed - Core i7 iMac with V-Studio

It's been a while since I've posted. I'm finally dumping my Tascam FW-1884 (what a joke of a piece of equipment) and thinking about going to the V-Studio. I've been reading nothing but good things, but want to make absolutely sure that I'm not about to make a bad decision.
 
As a recently new co-owner of a recording studio, I'm looking to upgrade the studio with SONAR (what I've used for my home studio since SONAR 3.) Since I already have a couple PCs and laptops, I was looking to possibly go with an Apple iMac instead and bootcamp an instance of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
 
Do you all have any thoughts on making this upgrade? Moreso, have any of you used an Apple running Windows to host SONAR?

    I would just get an i7 PC instead. There's no sense in putting an extra layer of processing (Bootcamp) between the OS and the computer. SONAR is written for Windows on a PC and that's what will give you the best performance. Or you could just run it on the quad-core system you have now... it should run fine on that.

    and the performance is excellent.

    I did not realize that Boot Camp ran between the OS and the computer- I thought it only made the partition. In that case, the iMac is out.

    Hmm... looks like I was wrong about Bootcamp and you were right, so I guess you could go with a Mac...

    I haven't used the V-Studio 700 on a Mac though, so you might want to check with Cakewalk first, but if that forum post is correct, then I think it should work fine.

    Ahh- interesting. So, now this presents the issue of having to decide...

    Honestly, since I already have a couple PCs, that was the only reason I was looking to get a Mac- just to have something different.

    I've tried that a couple times over the years and didn't the Macs I bought.
    Always wound up basically ignoring them and using my PC.
    That was a while back, before Bootcamp though so it's probably not that relevant today but....
    I just never liked the feel of a Mac program.

    I just bought a refurbished Core i7 iMac and the V-Studio 700 bundle ($1959 for the iMac and $3400 for the bundle!)

    I'll let you all know what kind of experience I have with it.

    Cool I am considering adding a mac will be very interested

    hi, i was wondering if you guys had a chance to test sonar 8.5 PE and the v-studio 700 on windows 7 installed on a MAC.

    since i still have to decide what computer i need - mac or pc - and i grew up with cakewalk, but pc's dont satisfy me that much, i would love to read some of your feedbacks about sonar running on windows 7 installed on mac.

    Sorry about the long delay! I find the iMac to be a very good choice for the money, IF you have space considerations, or if an all-in-one unit is an attractive option. I liked the idea of being able to fairly easily move my entire setup around, along with having MacOS for random programs as a novelty. One of my coworkers at the studio, who is a Mac-head, finds it practically offensive that the iMac is defaulted to boot to Windows. To quote him, "it's just wrong." :-)

    Personally, I hate the Magic Mouse, but that's just me.

    Make sure if you do this to disable the on-board wifi card and sound card within Windows, else you will have serious latency issues. Definitely an inconvenience, but not enough to make me regret the purchase.
