Options for acquiring the final released version of Sonar Platinum?
Hi there. Long time user, as shocked and bummed at the closure as anybody. Given the forum atmosphere at the moment, this is perhaps a strange question, but... is there any way to purchase the final update of Sonar Platinum? I own Platinum, but my rolling updates expired about a year ago. In the interim, there have been loads of updates... some of which solved long-standing workflow issues I've had. I had planned to purchase another year of updates for $250 within the next couple of months. Because of the CW store closure, it would appear the only valid way to obtain the final update is to purchase the full version from a third party vendor.... which isn't an acceptable option. Its my understanding that the software license is non-transferable, thus I assume that the rolling-updates subscriptions are non-transferable as well. So... is there an option? Please refrain from answers such as "You should try DAW xyz". I'm very aware of the greater DAW ecosystem, own multiple others, and will be forming a long-term transition plan on my own. Cheers, -ewb

The Cakewalk Store is closed.
A third party re-seller might be able to help but I do not guarantee anything

I'm hoping that Cakewalk will do something in this area either allowing all registered users to upgrade to the final version free of charge or for a nominal fee. I would also love to see a final patch update fixing any bugs that were already being worked on. This would be good for Cakewalk/Gibson and they simplify the process of closing everything down. It is good for us users as it makes Sonar support for third parties easier which will encourage them to continue. I'm pretty sure that these are the issues that they will be looking at during the "transition" period. I anticipate a further period of silence, which may be annoying but realistically they don't have much of an option, then we should hear what they have planned. What this means in practice is that we need to be patient and see what they come u with hoping that it will be good, or at least as good as it can be, for all of us.

As I understand it, they are not going to be paid for anything they do other than close the office down. They probably get a severance package of a month or so but you need to realise there is nobody working for Cakewalk anymore, it's gone and there is also no reason to offer anything to people who didn't follow the updates. They will be offering a code to solve the activation issue as that's only reasonable.

I´m in the same situation as the thread starter and I guess we´re not the only ones. Edit: BTW, which version is the latest release?

I'm sure Gibson will still happily take your money if you offer it to them. Cakewalk still has a skeleton crew working apparently.
Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

Are you saying that the last update for subscription users already paid, is not available to download from "control" any more?

The latest version, as above is what is in CCC. This most likely will not every be updated. Until they take the servers down everyone should download EVERYHING in their acount and store it in at least 3 places. This will be a problem for all the Sonar users who are at this point oblivious to what happened. I bet only 10% of Sonar users visit this forum. And many don't subscribe to E mail.

I have a copy of Sonar Pro in the box that hasn't been registered so can I register it and download the latest version? Can you download the whole thing to disk or can you only download using the Cakewalk utility?

I too would like to find a way to upgrade to Platinum from Professional, and/or at least acquire Rapture Pro and Z3TA+ 2. I'm still relatively new to Sonar, but after trying a couple of other DAWs this past couple of days, I prefer Sonar. Some other DAW UIs look better on YouTube for me, but I didn't like them in the flesh. Just saying in case the right people are listening. The idea of someone at CW saying `ah fu$k it!', and releasing everything else for free to registered customers, sounds like fun.

This really sucks, I've used Sonar for years. My motherboard died a couple of weeks ago and I've literally just finished building a brand new PC tonight. The last version I bought was X1 and I came here a few minutes ago ready to dig my wallet out and upgrade...
I haven't really followed Sonar's progress for a few years as X1 was working fine for me so I'm not sure how it works with subscriptions. I guess I definitely can't buy Platinum from the CW store but if I bought a retail boxed copy would I still get full functionality? I can live without future updates as long as it's stable.

I think that is a problem we are all having at the moment. It's only when you lose it that you realize what an amazing thing you had.

I would give it a few days. There so far has only been one post in the announcements forum that has sparked all this chaos. Who knows, maybe Noel was drunk when he posted that or we are all having a bad dream and will wake up soon. I am sure we will hear more details soon and things will calm down a bit. Most users haven't heard this news yet so I would expect there will be a formal announcement at some time and maybe a goodwill offering from Gibson. No, forget that last part. There more than likely will be a way to upgrade and it will probably be for a bargain price. I'm sure Gibson won't say no to the opportunity to take more of your money. The store is closed but I am sure they could process payments manually. Ironically they may not be able to cope with the demand.

I've found a retail version of Professional that I'm tempted to get before the ship sails. Presumably it needs some kind of online activation? Does anyone know if it's likely to work if I buy it?
