Orange Tree Banshee now Dracus - Free upgrade.

Orange Tree has updated and renamed Banshee. Incidentally dont be put off by the apparent "metal" bias, this is a very versitile instrument.

We've just released a new version for the
(formerly-named) Evolution Banshee sample library. Here's what's new:

Library Renamed
To avoid confusion with a real guitar having a similar name, we've renamed the
library to Evolution Dracus. After all, you can't get more metal than dragons
and vampires.

Now NKS-Ready
Just like with the Evolution Strawberry, Steel Strings, and our recently
released Modern Nylon guitar libraries, Evolution Dracus is now NKS-ready. This
virtual instrument specification has a ton of benefits, especially if you own
any Komplete Kontrol hardware such as an S-Series keyboard or Maschine.

Firstly, we changed the factory tone presets to use Kontakt 5's snapshot preset
system instead of the integrated presets. This is a nice upgrade because your
own user presets are accessible from the same dropdown menu, organized neatly
into subfolders. They also integrate really nicely with Komplete Kontrol, where
the snapshots are directly accessible through the instrument browser.

The library also takes advantage of the Light Guide feature on a Komplete
Kontrol keyboard, showing you where all the key ranges and keyswitches are
located.

Finally, if you're using any Komplete Kontrol hardware, all the parameters are
automated to the hardware knobs. For example, on the S-Series keyboard, all the
knobs are labeled and assigned to control the effects and various settings in
the library. It adds a whole new dimension of interaction with the library,
customizing it completely from the keyboard without having to touch the
library's interface.

More Factory Presets
One of the benefits of switching to Kontakt 5's snapshot system is being able
to easily add additional factory presets to the library. So while we were at
it, we added even more crunchy and distorted factory presets.

More Reverb Options
We're constantly improving the Evolution guitar engine, including adding new
reverb impulses. In this new upgrade, you'll find a bunch of additional reverb
pedals, based on impulses recorded from real stompboxes. The number of effects
included in the Evolution guitar library is now dangerously close to
pedal-hoarding status. But we don't judge.

To install this new updated version, you'll need to download the engine and
samples and re-add it to Kontakt as if it's a new library.

Unfortunaly it is necessary to download all the samples again so it will be an hour or two before I can try it out!

Down loaded and installed.

It installs along side Banshee, which is still visable in the libraries tab in Kontakt and has its own serial number. Unless you have existing projects that rely on it I cant see any reason not to remove Banshee if you want to reclaim 8GB of disk space.

It’s a worthwhile upgrade even if you do not need the NKS support as there are a number of other improvements and more pre-sets.

If you are not an NKS user you still can benefit by from the host automation introduced in this version. I have just looked at the Banshee and Dracus side by side in Sonar. Banshee does not expose parameters for automation in the synth rack, but Dracus does.

And in NKS, never underestimate the value of clearly labelled encoders on a keyboard, it really encourages tweaking and scrolling through the patches without moving from the keys is neat when auditioning them.

One minor disappointment is due to the limitations of Native Instruments’ classification system there is no crunch guitar category which would have made browsing easier. You just get Clean, Distorted and Jazz. For user and non-NKS pre-sets one can create categories but this feature is missing for “factory” libraries.

Happy to see this NKS upgrade is free.
Wasn't like that for Steel Strings.
Hope the same for Rosewood.

Because it was already a Kontakt Player library?

I concur. It made categorizing some of the crunchy patches a little tough--is it in the realm of distortion or closer to a clean tone with a little fuzz? Here's hoping we get more tags in the future. :)

Just to confirm what others said, this upgrade was free because the library had already licensed the Kontakt Player.

I couldn't find it mentioned on Orange Trees site: Do Nylon and Dracus work in Kontakt 4, like Steel Strings, or do they require Kontakt 5?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

They use Kontakt 5, but both libraries license the free Kontakt Player which can be downloaded from the Native Instruments website--so you don't need to own the full version of Kontakt 5 in order to use either library.
