Sounds like a really nice flute that I would never use.  But if I ever needed a flute in a song it would be the PASSION FLUTE!

Same here. I did not buy it because I can't justify spending a hundred bucks on something I'll only use once. Except maybe a lobster dinner.

But yorolpal will almost certainly buy it because he's compulsive that way. And wealthier than me.

The marketing dept. gets a high five from me, great name. But Kontact dependent, and the full player to boot. Booo!

FWIW, It's prohibitively expensive to license the Kontakt player.
Not realistic for lower cost libraries...

Jim's right. There is no way you could package a specialized library like this with the Kontakt player and still be commercially viable. It would have to sell for 4 times as much, further narrowing its already limited market.

    Hi Jim - Dave,

I've been told that in addition to the relatively high per-copy price, a developer has to buy a certain number of copies in advance --- I was told at one time it was 1,000 copies, or nearly $20,000 initial capital.  Add that to the cost of equipment, and you've got quite an investment to recoup.

Greg does outstanding work, though, no doubt about that.  As you both probably know but some may not, he uses Kontakt in part because its scripting allows him to add a lot of playability features to the library.  That is, his libraries are far more than just a collection of samples, allowing one to create more credible performances with a keyboard than is usually the case.  It does take some extra work (added: from the user as well as from Greg), but it's no doubt easier than learning a new instrument.

I hope Greg is able to keep going because nobody else is doing what he is doing as far as I know....

    Best regards,
    Dave Clark

Greg's been asked why he doesn't support any other samplers besides Kontakt. It comes down to the scripting. Kontakt is simply way ahead of every other sampler in this regard. Anybody can play and transpose samples and map them to velocity layers, but it's the scripting that turns a collection of samples into an actual musical instrument.
