Orange Tree Samples Lap Steel Update

Greg has released a free update to the Lap Steel library. You should have received an email if you're signed up for notifications.

Note that it is not necessary to download the samples, a big file. You only need to get the much smaller Engine RAR.

The email says that the samples have not changed, just the .nki, .nkc and .nkr files (these are part of the SLIDELapSteel-Engine.rar file). However, the samples have changed in that they've been converted to compressed NCW format.

The samples you have now are wave files, and they are still compatible with the new nki so downloading the samples is optional. You can save yourself the time and just keep using the original wave files. If you really want them in NCW format (faster loading, less disk space) you can convert them yourself much faster than downloading the NCW's.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Are you sure?
I thought the update uses Kontakt's compressed NCW instead of the older WAVs?
I suppose you could convert them. Probably less hassle just re-downloading it.

Got a 2nd email saying the 1st one was incorrect.

You should be getting a follow up email about it.

The new/second email from OTS said:
In our previous email, containing the download links to update your SLIDE Lap Steel sample library, we mistakenly stated that the samples were unchanged, so you could just copy your old "Samples" folder to the new SLIDE Lap Steel folder. Although the samples themselves are unchanged, their format has been converted to Kontakt's lossless NCW compressed format instead of WAV format, meaning that you will need to redownload the SLIDE Lap Steel samples.

Of course, it's technically possible to convert the old samples to NCW within Kontakt to work with the new version, but re-downloading the samples is by far the simplest method

Maybe Greg will stop by and clarify the "you will need to redownload", but I've verified that the old samples work just fine, as expected.
