Orange tree mind control kontakt script

Just got this script yesterday, if you're working with key switching and articulations in Kontakt get this script NOW

Instead of working at the instrument level it works at the instrument bank level.

This means that you can load instruments that in turn have their own keyswitches, and then keyswitch between those at the bank level, even mix and match libraries with articulations in completely different instruments and create switches for them.

Standard keyswitching is the least it can do, you can create conditions to switch between instruments with the following conditions:

Velocity
Pitch
Controllers
Aftertouch
Program changes
Keyswitch (Latched/unlatched.)
Random
MIDI Channel
Last speed of your playing (Switch instruments based on how fast you play)
Last duration of a note (Play long notes and switch to sustain patch, play staccato and switch to staccato patch)
Cycles
Intervals (Play a minor third to get one switch, major third another or whatever interval)
Polyphony (How many notes you hold down)
Last slot used
Last layer used.

I'm in heaven, so many cool things you can do and create your own combinations from different libraries where the scripts are locked.

I've been having a hell of a time trying to work with keyswitches at the instrument level, this was just what the doctor ordered.

I've not even used my mind control software yet. Very encouraging. Is this special scripting or just standard scripting for MC? What software instruments/ VST's are you using it with?

It's just a standard script for kontakt that's loaded into an instrument bank.

After that you can just load whatever kontakt library/instrument into the banks and make up rules for when to activate that slot.

I'm currently using it with my prominy sc guitar library, it has hundreds of articulations that you're supposed to create your own patches for, but the standard keyswitches in kontakt are a pain to work with, with MC I can just slap whatever instrument into a slot in an instrument bank and make up a rule for when it's activated.

What used to take an hour or more I can now do in a couple minutes. There's so much I can do now, for example have a sustain instrument when playing slow, and then switch to a more staccato instrument when I play faster.

There's 4 rules for each slot, so you can do something like only activate an instrument when you press C1, and then only when the velocity is between 0 and 50, but only when playing more than 3 notes that have been held down for more than 500 ms, endless possibilities for creating presets that can do things on the fly you'd normally have to spend ages editing in the piano roll.

Awesome, Ken. I've got to try it soon. [And I see you're an 8Dio fan, also. Good stuff]

What is your favorite Guitar library, Prominy or Vir2?

Hands down Prominy, it's still the only libraries that sounds convincing where you don't need to tweak a lot to get around small things sounding fake.

V-metal for heavier distorted stuff and SC Guitar for everything else.

Especially SC Guitar, it's amazing but it takes a long time to learn if you want to go beyond the included example presets and build your own, expect to get deep into learning kontakt if you want to get the most out of it. But it's the only one that comes close to having nearly every little articulation a guitar can do multisampled in insane detail, there's hundreds and hundreds of single instrument articulations you can put together to perform nearly anything. It even has everything sampled in 3 different pickup positions.

Yeah 8dio has some great stuff, the Taiko and Frame drum libraries are so powerful and their Legacy Piano is also very nice.

Thanks for your detailed opinions, Ken! And I do agree w/you about  the 8Dio products. I still want to get the Legacy Piano and the fabulous Taiko Ensemble- I think its the best of any Taiko sampling . I wasn't too impressed with the inflexibility of the Barbary vocal collection [The vocals are great], but I may find more use for it with my Melodyne software. Its good to hear from someone that actually uses OT Mind Control and has found how very helpful it is.
