Orchestral Template Setup
Here's the question I'm having to ask myself: do I include more VST plugins in my template at the cost of processing power,
or do I keep the VSTs to a minimum and keep my processing power.
I will be using a couple of plugins for my scores:
- Spectrasonics
- Omnisphere
- Stylus RMX
- Trillian
- Toontrack
- Kontakt 4
- Eastwest
- Symphonic Orchestra Gold
- Symphonic Choirs (WB multis)
- Symphobia
- Ambiences
- Strings
- FX
- Orchestral rips
- Woodwind runs
- Brass sfz crescendos
- Native Instruments VSL Instruments
Obviously, there is no way to load all of these plugins at once without freezing the synths and unfreezing them as needed...
I'm looking for a template that will allow me a good spectrum of everything here and give me just the inspiration to get composing. Should I load the KS (keyswitch) versions of Symphonic Orchestra Gold or add each part individually as MIDI tracks? I'm worried this might cost me more RAM because I can only load 16 instruments per Kontakt instance (in order to have an audio track for each), and running the Kontakt engine, of course, takes up RAM. The server, of course, makes things a lot different, as I can allocate more hard disk space to my pagefile as needed. The good thing about avoiding the keyswitches (I think) is that I can see my options more readily on the Tracks View and group them accordingly (String Cresc., Strings, Staccato, etc.).
Your input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
