Ordered some stuff via Amazon Prime.

I just placed an order today (Mon 11) around noon. It's guaranteed to be here by Wed. Feb 13th. When I placed the order it said I still had 6 more hours to add to it and still get it all by the 13th. I know a couple folks were asking about how reliable Amazon Prime shipping is, I'll report back when I get my order. So far everything I've ordered from them has showed up on time or early.

I got a pair of AKG 240MKII headphones, a Stage Rack for mounting my rack mount mic pre and compressor, and I got a Roku for my wife. She's been wanting one so she could hook it up to the TV in the basement while she's on the treadmill. I'm hoping since the WiFi generates from inside the house it won't be a problem in the basement.

Got it all free with the points I've been saving on my CC.

One thing I discovered about those points ... you can set up a link between your CC and Amazon so you can use the points directly from your card ... but the exchange rate sucks. You're better off buying Amazon E-Gift cards. I ended up getting $50 bucks more by doing that. They really screw you with that direct points link deal. The E-gift cards are instant, you get the code in an email right away and you enter it during checkout on Amazon.

I wanted to buy some Rack Rails and make my own portable rolling rack for my stuff. But the parts were expensive, and you had to buy the screws separate. The stage rack unit I bought was cheaper than buying the parts, and it comes with screws. It's just a little metal one, but I figure if I don't like it, I can take a hack saw and cut it apart and make something out of it.

I'm hoping to get a rack mount DAW and sound card some day. That way I can have all my stuff in one little carrier and move it around the house and to the basement easily.

Can't wait for Wednesday. I'm dying to hook my mic pre and comp up.

It said at the checkout screen that for $4 bucks I could have it show up tomorrow. How the heck do they ship that stuff so fast, so cheap? I didn't do it, but it was tempting. The waiting and anticipation is half the fun.

I am A Prime © member and yes, the 2 day shipping 99.9 % of the time arrives in two days...
the next day for 3.99 is PER ITEM. so if you have 3 items in your oeder and want them all next day its almost 12 dollars for the expidited shipping..

Another Bummer , not everything is Prime, and Prime stuff is usually a few bucks more than another non prime vendor.

The up side is returns are painless for Prime stuff and quick..

Ahh! I didn't notice that it was per item! You would think that the more items you add, the less expensive it would be. They would have to lose money shipping fewer items next day.

Yes, that's true. But it's usually cheaper after you figure in the other persons shipping. Not always. :)

Thankfully I haven't had to return anything yet. But that's good to know.

Just got an email a few minutes ago saying everything shipped and it's too late to add to the order and have it by the 13th.

The other thing about Prime is, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling that I'm not going to get screwed by someone. If it's actually fullfilled by Amazon I have someone to go complain to that's not going to disappear overnight if need be.

I'm excited. Can't wait to get my gadgets. I'm really looking forward to the new cans. I'm hoping to be able to eek by just using those since I don't have a place to set my HS-80's up anymore. I may sell them if this works out.

Did you get a second PC?  That way, while one is rebooting and recovering from an X2 crash you can use the other to vent on the forums!

If you have a .edu email adress, it's only $40/year.  Totally worth it.

I love Prime... I got new studio monitors in the mail today... Ordered on Saturday morning, and I didn't even pay for extra shipping.  Just the free Prime shipping.  $299 at GC, $209 on Amazon.

Not only the web store, but I think Amazon Prime kicks Netflix's behind as far as free streaming movies goes.  At least for us, the quality is better, and they have more movies (although the vast majority of the freebies are the same as Netflix). But Prime gets 'Downton Abbey' faster, which is reason enough for me. :)

Nice! There are such great deals on Amazon. Those headphones I got, $180 at Sweetwater. I found one site selling them for $200. I paid $105, so I'm happy with that.

Yes, I noticed Prime's quality is better too. I thought it was just my setup that I was viewing it on.

I hate to admit it, but I'm hooked on Downton Abbey. We watched all the previous seasons on Prime and we're catching the current one on PBS now. This coming Sunday is the season finale'. Last nights show was 2 hours. Yay! :)

If you're in to Sci-Fi, they have all the new Dr. Who's, and Torchwood's. Love those shows.

I already know too much about the finale... Too many friends abroad posted spoilers when it aired in Europe. But I won't tell... (Grew up on Dr Who 60s-90s, but I've ony seen about 15 minutes of the newer ones.  I had no idea what was going on, but I liked it anyway. My husband not at all into it-- it's just not something he's going to watch-- and we're usually watching together...)

My wife is into that show big time. Didn't know you could get it on Amazon prime. I'll look into that.

Bub maybe we will get to hear some more of that classy crooning soon?

I have no doorman in my building and am rarely home when packages get delivered so they always end up at the Fed Ex depot across town or the Post Office uptown. It's a real pain but them I discovered Amazon Lockers. They're in drug stores and supermarkets and there's one near me. My stuff gets delivered to the locker, they email me a code and I stop by and use it to open my compartment. My online shopping has increased 1000% since I started using them.

Thanks. I have 4 songs I'm working on now, but I'm not going to put anything out until I got the new headphones.

This is what I'm using now ...

I see them going for $80 bucks on Amazon ... my wife got them for me at Target ... 6 or 7 years ago for $19 bucks. They don't sound very good at all. When I mix in them, it's way off. So I'm not going put anything out until I mix in the new cans and send the file to someone to listen to to see how I did.

I had big plans to build a studio in my basement, but it's not going to happen now. So ... I got my DAW on the dining room table and I've been using headphones. :(

Oh man your next purchase has got to be a VRM box! It's no replacement for studio monitors and it certainly doesn't fool you into thinking that you're listening on monitors, but what it does is give you a reasonable idea of how your mix is going to translate on a wide variety of speakers, all through your headphones.  There are simulations of common studio monitors, bedroom setups and living room setups. For instance in the studio you have among other things Auratones, Genelec 1031A,  KRK, Adam, Rogers and Stirling simulations, then you have computer desktop,  budget micro system, Flat screen TV,  90's Hi-fi, 80's hi-fi and some of the studio monitors but in the living room or bedroom. Each of them exposes different problems in your mix and if you can get it sounding satisfactory on each of those speaker settings then you can be reasonably confident that it's going to sound OK on real world speakers too. Of course you wouldn't put a mix out without checking in the real world first, but it sure beats bouncing your mix down and lugging it around to different locations to listen. You have to use it with a quality set of cans, but it looks like you have those now...

Holy crap! These 240's are incredible.

Now I have to remix everything I've been doing that last week.

    That's ok though! That's a good thing!
