"Ordinary Miracles" - TruePianos
Hi All, I've been wanting an excuse to play with TruePianos, so I "resurrected" a song from several years ago and did a quick recording. I find it very hard to judge pianos with most of the piano-shootout web sites because there aren't very many examples with pop/rock mixes. Most of the songs I do are piano-driven pop, so I thought this might be a good test. The piano part on this song was recorded a couple of years ago as midi, rendered originally on a Roland keyboard. I was never happy with the sound, especially on this song, and I made several attempts to replace the piano with various VSTs, including Ivory. Now, I think Ivory's great, but I actually think TruePianos rendered the existing Midi better (for this song) than Ivory. I'm actually impressed enough to rerecord/render the pianos on a number of my songs. It's just a quick test; nevertheless I thought I'd share it here, for better or worse. Anyway, the link below is my song page Soundclick. Ordinary Miracles should be at the top. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=21208

Good song, and nice job on the vox and piano. I tried out the TruePianos demo, and it's definitely fun to play with. The mix, according to my computer speakers at work, had the vox a little too hot.

Gary, nice vocals and great piano. TruePianos are my go to keys. I really like the new amber samples too. For those intested in Jamstix too, Rayzoon and 4Front have a sweet cross grade discount agreement.

Robby: Thanks for the listen! I'm really starting to like TruePianos a lot. It seems to fit in a mix better than Ivory in many cases. There are also some things that really bug me about Ivory -- the #1 issue is that the middle octave, especially on the Yamaha piano sample, is DEAD compared to the rest of the piano. In my experiance, the middle octave in a sampled piano is the hardest to get right, and while Ivory is excellent otherwise, it makes the deficiency in the middle octave even more frustrating. Darin and Larry: Thanks for checking it out and for the compliments! Douglas: Absolutely right about the vocal level being too hot. I re-arranged some of the busses at the last minute and didn't give the mix a close-enough listen. Apparently the gain structure changed a bit. Janet and Tom: Thanks very much! I appreciate you listening and your comments.

Check out Synthogy's Italian Grand which is an upgrade to Ivory, I have that upgrade and they did a darn good job with it ;-) But there are no complaints about what you posted, really sounds like a mic'ed (well mic'ed) grand.

Good job Gary! I'm interested in how you recorded your vocals, they sound very clean. Just curious what mic, preamp, fx and eq you may be using.

Jeff, Anthony & Tom, Thanks so much for listening and also for the kind words! Tom, the vocal chain was: Mic: U-87 -> Pre: Studio Projects VTB-1 -> Comp: RNC -> Converter: RME Fireface 800. The mix had a little Sonitus EQ, UAD-1 LA-2A and Plate 140
