Original instrumental - Zylo
Hello again all. I am back with a original instrumental rock song this time. As usual any and all feedback / critique is more then welcome and much appreciated. Trying to get these songs to a decent mix for an album. Edit: https://soundcloud.com/fendicator/zylo-take-04 - drums more in the middle (hi hat's and toms), notched out the 240 eq on rhythm guitars, turned up lead in some sections by 1.0db Update: all guitars turned up 1.0db or so and the right guitar has it's own sound now, so hopefully that made the overall track sound better and more spread out?? https://soundcloud.com/fendicator/zylo-take-05

Sounds pretty good, reminiscent of Black Sabbath in places. I might spread the guitars out a bit more in the stereo field, the drums seem wider listening through headphones. Nice lead work at 2:55, that could come up in the mix.

Hey James, thanks for the reply and advice. I looked into the drums sounding to wide, I went ahead and brought in the toms and hi hat more towards the middle, but still gave them there own space. On the rhythm guitars however, there 2 tracks at 100% L and R. I never do quad tracking, so I am not sure how to spread them out wider without using something else like a widener. Feels like cheating to me lol. I did notice I forgot to notch out the 225 to 240 range in the EQ. So maybe doing that made a little more room for the bass to stand out.

Listened to the second mix not bad, I think it needs some lyrics but that is just my furry opinion, thanks for sharing.

Some prog fun! I listened to both and I think you could turn up the higher-pitched lead even more. Right now the Snare is louder than the guitar, at least how I hear it. I think this piece wants to showcase that lead guitar more. otherwise, the mix is super clean. Well done! -Tom

It is quite difficult to hold the listeners attention thru an entire instrumental with one type of lead instrument. Now it's been a long time since I learned the songs on Paranoid but I did like the heavy rock and cut my teeth prior to that on Clapton and Hendrix. (I had been playing guitar for over ten years when Black Sabbath released Paranoid in 1970) The guitar work is good. I like the tapping. Since I have played drums for some 50+ years, I would use a lot more double bass work. It pretty much defines the metal drummer genre. Of course that is easy for me to say. My double pedal work is uhmm, suggestive of a 65 year old who rarely practices. Keep it up.. good stuff. Oh, you know what would be kind of cool in this to alternate the guitar lead? Pedal steel LOL, just kidding. Seriously, an overdriven B3 sound would just kill in this.

Hey everybody thanks for all the feedback so far. I recently made an update to this song (see the edit on first post). Turned all guitars up and gave the right guitar a new amp, cab and EQ. I am wondering if that helped the overall sound?
