Other than going to a Torrent site - is there any way to get the most current version
. . . if you're a few months behind on updates? I'd gladly pay a few bucks for this if possible.

Some retailers still have the DVD boxes in stock and want to sell them so there are a few places you can buy Sonar Platinum, like Amazon. There's also some new current and past versions on eBay.

X3 and newer do not have physical media. There is no DVD in the box. Amazon doesn't mention a download and charges a shipping fee. They also estimate when your package will arrive. Also, from the comments section: Question: do you have hard copy instead of download?

The box contains with a card with the redemption code printed on it and and printed version of the Getting Started and Quick Start Guides but no disks. X2 was the last version to ship on disk.
Even if it did contain a disk (which it does not), it would be an older release as Cakewalk would not make new disks each month for the current release.

no, what the original OP was talking about is not only do we get a unlock file to never talk back to cakewalk servers, but I hope the bakers will please go ahead and let everyone just have the latest version with all of the updates, patches, etc..:)
I was willing to get my version of sonar up to the latest version by paying for it, but the stores closed before I could do this, so please bakers, when you release the unlock file, give everyone the latest version...

If your membership is still active, or you are a lifetime member, the most recent updates are still available for you to download and install from My Account / My Products. But since the store has closed, there is no way to renew a membership there if it has lapsed. The last product you owned should still be there though. I assume that any Cakewalk redemption codes that may be available through 3rd party retailers would still be honored. But I have noticed that some retailers have already updated their online stores with "product no longer available" notes. But seriously, I wouldn't sink any more money into this product! Just keep what you have and use it until the wheels fall off!

I'm enjoying the idea (fantasy?) that the nice people left at Cakewalk will simply release the full versions of everything to all customers. I have the latest full version of Sonar Professional, and the trials of Sonar Platinum, Rapture Pro and Z3TA+ 2. So, I'm at least hoping to walk away with the full versions of Rapture Pro and Z3TA+ 2, which I'd be willing to pay for.

I think Gibson should release all of Cakewalk's products for free to all Lifetime Update owners and $49 for everyone else. I think they should also release one more update that allows all Cakewalk plugins to work in other DAWs like the Adaptive Limiter. I understand they can't do that for 3rd party plugins but they should for their own.

As cool as that would be, the nice folks left at Cakewalk can only do what Gibson lets them. It would also be problematic for folks who paid full price for their products. Enjoy what you have, but don't hold your breath for handouts.

Apparently, if you have purchased Sonar elsewhere you can still register it on your account page and it will then become available for download on your products page. The "Register a Product" button is still active. I haven't tested it though.

OK I realize this is NOT the ops issue, But, like KiteKrazy1, I will never understand why people do NOT save all the versions, etc. Especially something as important as Daw software. As cheap as ext storage, etc is these days. I save everything. Sorry, wish I had an answer for the op though.

So don't I. I actually have back ups of back ups. In case one fails. And if those back ups ever fail, I still have a hard copy to fall back on (which is the installers and content burned on to disk. Sorry I know this isn't the OP's problem and I wish I could offer a solution but I haven't got one.
