Out of Control

Well, I haven't been doing as much music lately because I am starting working on my MBA.  But I still managed to sqeeze in finishing this song.

I hope everyone likes, and of course all comments are welcome.

Thanks,

Mathew

Mathew, I love this! It's killer man! Nice production and spot on for the genre. The only crit I have is the toms sound muddy each time I hear them. More so when they are in with the music than when they are alone. I know it's all about having cool bass in stuff like this...which you have...I just felt the toms didn't have the same cleanliness all your other lower end stuff had. They just sounded weird...but other than that, this is really cool man! Would be cool to have a few more phrases vocally, but considering you've been spending your time on other things in life, it's great to hear you're at least enjoying music a little. This is a solid idea that I'd love to hear you build on. Best of luck with your MBA brother...and thanks for sharing the tune...well done. :)

Thanks for the crits man, I've actually wondered about the toms a couple of times, but had left them alone.  Maybe I should cruise through battery 3 a bit more and see if I can't find something to fit better.  That or try my hand with EQ a bit.

As for the MBA, ty.  I've been putting it off for years now, but figure I mine as well do it.  Whether I will ever make any money from music is a big question.   But I figure combine a MBA with my CPA license, and that's almost a guartunteed return.  To bad, it will won't teach me how to spell.

    Thanks again,

    Mathew

Nice production Matt, everything sounded well balanced and clear to me.  I like your choice of snares for this

Thanks, it was actually a layered snare and clap.   Helps fill it out a bit.

    Glad you liked.

I went looking for my glow sticks there :-) Not a genre I listen to normally but I can appreciate the appeal of it. And it sounded good to me.

Wow! This is really really good. I love those vocals and also the drums are really bassy in a really nice way. The production quality is top notch the entire way through. It sounds really professional.

    Thanks for the comments guy.

@ Mgh,  some day I'm going to learn enough music theory to actually use chords, lol.   It all seems so complicated.   Right now, I mainly just bang away on the keys until I find something that sounds good.

The production is top notch. Good job.

I agree with DD on the toms, especially the lower toms. I'd thin them out a bit... roll the low EQ off on them. The mix is so fat that they overload it. Right now they have a muffled sound to me, so cut the lows, boost the highs and play with the mids to see what sounds best in the context of the mix.

Ok, I cut the lows a bit on the toms, and then layered them with a another set of toms.  Mixed them both down to a bus, with some heavy compression.  I do think they sound better.

Thanks, for making me go back and fix it :)

@ Janet most of it's really not that hard, a bit of layring and arpeggios.   Nothing you couldn't do with your top notch piano chops :)

Anyway, yes it's nice to work on it a bit.   I'm also trying to get some artwork together so I can sign with this digital distribuor.  Man that's a pain, I am not an artist.

Having piano chops doesn't mean I know how to run all this crazy software.  :)

But I'm impressed...a one-chord musician that makes amazing music...AND and non-artist trying to do artwork.  That's cool.  :)

@ Janet  ....I saw a youtube video of a guy in a home studio putting together an electronica style song. He used layers and looping.  Adding one thing after another.... it was pretty cool how he did it.

Lots of one finger stuff on a midi keyboard.

I confess I did use two fingers for parts of the song, lol.   It was for some of the arpgegated parts.  It's funny, when ever I try and play in an arp it just doesn't sound the same.  I would assume my velocity etc is off.

As for the art, I'm about to give up.  I've even emailed some people who's stuff I liked online.  No responeses.  Maybe I will just try and photo shop something.

That's the worst thing about being indepedent is you have to wear all the hats.  Well, or I could pay someone like $500, but that's not going to happen.  I could buy a lot of gear for that !

Don't have a clue what you're looking for, but if there's not a big fat deadline, there are a couple of good artists around here (although one hasn't been around much lately.)  It might be worth asking.

@Herb...someone posted a video of a girl doing that in their studio not long ago.  I have no idea how she did what she was doing, but it sure sounded cool and looked amazing...just like you said...she just kept adding layer after layer.

I remember a video of a guy doing orchestra stuff with the piano roll a while back.  I was blown away on how by all the layers and how quickly he put it together.

I really enjoyed this, Matthew.  Cool use of the vocal samples and stutter.  I was particularly fond of the break from ca. 2:20 to 3:00 where you bring in those analog sweeps.  Really nice job on this.  Good luck with the MBA.
