Output designations - L R and stereo still checked when left or right explicit

I think I am going to stop after this.

When I choose to have a left or right explicit output set for the track output designation, The Left, Right and stereo designators are all checked in the output options.

Why would you not expect to see only the selection you chose explicitly? I know there was a fix in this area, but it did not quite reach what I would call complete and accurate.

If I choose a left or right explicitly for a track output, which works as expected audio-wise, I do not expect that ALL of the options for that output are checked.

The check marks show which outputs are available when you select a bus. The track or bus Output widget shows which output is selected.

the widget does not show all of my output name, so it is pretty useless. If the list shows available outputs, Why are not ALL 56 tracks shown with a check for my RME UFX? I think most would expect that the actual output used would be checked. That would be more useful regardless of how it is implemented currently.

the widget does not show all of my output name, so it is pretty useless.

You can enter whatever name you want.  That's the purpose of the "friendly names" under Preferences. The label will show Left, Right, and Stereo with up to four additional numbers (e.g., Stereo1435; for example my labels show up as Left01, Right12, Stereo14, etc.) and 3 or 4 alphanumeric character combinations, depending on letter width. With more than four, abbreviations will happen.

Why are not ALL 56 tracks shown with a check for my RME UFX

Because a bus can't feed all 56 tracks at once. You select what's available for that bus.

I think most would expect that the actual output used would be checked.

It IS shown, in the Track Output widget, because that's what matters while you're doing a project. Choosing the outputs a bus feeds is a one-time setup process that at least I no longer refer to while doing a project unless I change the assignment, and when I do, it shows clearly what available options were assigned previously.

Thx for the explanation Craig, I do have friendly names set as well as show mono output.

My widgets are set to basically the same first portion of the output description with no discernible way to determine the output port of choice at a glance. The balloon has the info if you hover over the widget though.

I am not talking about a bus feed totally. I am also talking about a track output. If I only want to feed the left or right portion of the output port and all of them are still checked, in a track output, what good is mono output option in the driver list to accurately display which port is in use?

I specifically have my UFX Total Mix set for mono outputs, NOT stereo. I do NOT want to see all of the left, right and stereo selected in a track output. My UFX is defined for mono out and I would appreciate it if the program was smart enough to determine which one I chose when I clicked on the output port in the track.

Is there a reason you just can't name each output with a number, 01 - 56? Then you'd see the entire name.

I just don't get why this is such a big problem. If you want to know the existing assignment, the widget shows it; worse case, you hover over it if the description is too long to fit. If you want to change the existing assignment, you click on what you want to feed. That seems really simple to me

My Roland V-Studio interface has all mono outputs, but they are still seen by Sonar and all my other programs as stereo pairs that are broken down into left, right, and stereo. In my experience, it is unusual to be able to configure an interface so that mono outputs are not categorized as separate parts of a stereo pair. You apparently have defined the UFX for mono out, but I doubt Sonar can probe the RME software to obtain this information.

This issue is not a big deal, but you seem to making it bigger than I wanted to. It makes no sense IMO to have more checked as in use/available in the output port than what you are actually using. That is my point. I hope we can agree to disagree hopefully.

Well, I figured you thought it was a big deal because you dedicated a thread to it and said that a fix was not complete. The issues addressed by the fix are complete, so I agree that it seems the visual representation matters to you for some reason, and I'm sure you can agree that it doesn't matter to me because it doesn't interfere with my workflow to even the slightest degree. Frankly I think it's an improvement over having nothing checked, which was the way it was before.

It has changed to be somewhat more informative, I will give you that, but still inaccurate. ;)
