Output releases Signal "Free" version
Don't know if any of have checked out Output's 2 synths, but they're pretty nice. I was strong and held off buying for now but was very tempting. Just got an e-mail today saying they are releasing a light version of Signal for free. "Featuring the complete functionality of SIGNAL with 2 synths and 2 organic sound sources" Output SIGNAL Free

I posted about this in the 'Deals' section a little while ago too :) Do you know if you're allowed to use the free version in commercial projects? I'm working on a project that I think could really benefit from it, but I don't want to break any rules. I asked them on their Facebook page, but I haven't heard back yet.

Hi skitch, Sorry I missed your post. I just checked in here to post. i don't check Deals very often. Have to work on that. Anyway, I found this for you: http://outputsounds.com/company/licensing-agreement/ Think that explains what you're looking for. Cheers! Bud

It's not problem. I wasn't sure which section was more appropriate to post it in, so I just went with 'Deals' since you can't get a much better deal than FREE! Haha!
Thanks for linking the licensing agreement. I guess if they didn't explicitly write that it can't be used in commercial projects, then the free version will also fall under their states licensing agreement. If I hear back from them on Facebook and that's not the case I'll write here.

I think the time limit only applies if you don't use the full Kontakt. Not sure what the actual reason would be though... Dan

Dan's correct - the 15-minute limitation applies only to the free Kontakt Player, as it does to every non-licensed Kontakt library. The paid version of the library is licensed with Native Instruments and can therefore be added to the Library tab and played through the Player without restrictions. Other than that distinction, the main difference between the free and paid ($199) versions is the size of the library: the latter is 20x larger than the former. I generally don't bother downloading even freebies without hearing them first. I had to poke around a bit to find them, as they're not linked on the page from the OP. Demos are here. It does sound pretty good, but IMO not two hundred bucks' worth of pretty good. Most of the sounds are rather generic and/or over-used synth patches. I gag whenever I hear yet another amplitude-modulated stacked and detuned sawtooth. I remember when electronic music was all about exploring new sonic turf, not regurgitating clichés.

In a way I kinda like this smaller version, not forcing me to put another 40 gigs on my drive

The limit is ONLY if you use it in the free Kontakt player. There is no time limit if you own the full version of Kontakt so that makes me think that somehow NI is involved in that limit.

Thanks for posting this. I did not get any email from Output regarding this and I am a paid user of one of their products. I was going to buy Signal but put it on the wish list and back burn'd it. I will check out this free version and see if I like the engine they built. I like Output's Rev. I don't use it all the time but in small amounts it's rather nice to spice up stuff. Output's products as Heavyocity seem geared toward the new Video Trailer/Game/Soundtrack stuff. which I really like and want to do but the genre is getting a bit stale since the Inception Soundtrack and Epic bombastic soundtrack stuff. ugh rambling. burst an ear drum so no music related stuff for me for at least 2 weeks maybe more. ugh, download and wait I guess. Still appreciate the news and posts about this stuff.
