I wonder if the presets are any good. That was my real big issue with TH2. I'm far too stupid to be able to build my own chains (I'm not a guitar player), I needs me some presets. Not only was their preset navigation a nightmare, and the names completely worthless, but they all seemed to have 8000 effects on them and sounded like crap. By comparison Amplitube 3 has lots of presets that sound good as they are.

Yes, as is BIAS. If nothing else taking into account the shear range of stomps and FX racks, not to mention the sound is gorgeous. YMMV however, but for me it is an unequivocal YES Now I am off to thrash TH3

I have liked S-Gear better than them all, but it's nice that TH3, Bias and S-Gear all have nice demo periods. I have no doubt that TH3 is best for Richard and that S-Gear is best for me. Probably has a lot to do with what one likes to hear. (I haven't tried TH3. I didn't care for TH2. I demo'd Bias a long time ago...I can't remember what I didn't like about it. I plan on trying them both again.)

For me TH3 is right up there with the BIAS family, maybe even ahead of it, been flogging it all day. It's the response, the pick attack, the gorgeous sound/tone, and then there is the whole slew of amps, stomps and FX racks, but most of all the sound, the feel, the response. Just from my time today I have so many good ideas that have come out of just jamming and playing around getting acquainted with TH3, and that's purely because the sound and feel is just a pleasure, just playing, the feel and the sound was just inspiring, switch to a preset and bang, close down the stand alone and fire up the Studio One, insert a couple of tracks, play and sing and get it down before I forget, it's been a great experience, I haven't really had that since first meeting BIAS, with TH2 I had to spend a lot of time getting use to it, and learn how to get what I wanted, then it was all plain sailing. TH3 is just easier to get along with out of the box, new GUI, preset system, everything, nothing to get in the way. I haven't even spent much time at all building my own sounds, and that's where the real magic comes, just had a brief look, I just simply wanted to play, and that in itself tells a story. I own pretty well all the Amp sims getting around (recently swapped Amplitube 3 and 4 and the complete custom shop inventory) but still have all the rest, and for me nothing really comes close to BIAS and TH3, even TH2, there are occasions, as I said somewhere else today, when I will fire up GTR3 for instance, select a sound and something will start to happen, now GTR3 is fine, but no comparison to BIAS and TH2/3 or S-Gear or Revalver etc, but try as I might in these situations I can't get a sound which will replace the one I have in GTR3, or Studio Devil, or Recab 4, or Vandal, whatever it may be, even though the others are of superior quality, what fits fits. There is something out there for everyone, some will like this, some that, really doesn't matter what anyone else likes or thinks. Me I buy the lot, then I know first hand which are the best, I don't just demo, I like to be able to play for as long or often as I like, whenever I like, if it doesn't suit today, or doesn't click with me today, maybe it will in 6 months time, or after the next update. That's why I had everything there was to get for Amplitube 3 and 4, just in case, not that it was terrible, just not that appealing to me, and in my opinion nowhere near other stuff I had, so I just gave up on it after Amplitube 4 and said to myself it's never going to happen, but I gave it a good shot, not just a couple of hours on the demo, I bought the lot had it for how ever long Amplitube 3 has been around, kept trying it on and off over that period. Same with Guitar Rig, I'll never upgrade that again, and probably not Revalver or a few of the others. S-Gear2, what can I say, I just don't use it, never get the feeling, hey I'll fire up S-Gear today, just doesn't happen, probably haven't fired it up since whenever the last update was, and that was only to see, that in itself tells the story for me. But for something like AmpLion Pro, well no need to follow it any further. I got a lot of other little gems like Mercuriall, TSE, and many others that have that something maybe in a certain area, or show promise to me, I'll keep upgrading them and supporting them until such time as I, well no longer do. I have what I consider to be the best by far, BIAS Amp Pro, BIAS FX Pro, BIAS Pedal, TH2 and TH3, the bases are covered. It's a bit like BFD3, there just isn't any competition for it, it's at the top, but I still get some Toontrack stuff, Ezdrummer stuff, not because it is, can or will be any where near BFD3, but it has another use, it's light, and it has the tools to aid quick easy composition etc, it most likely will never end up in the final, but it suits a purpose. Anyway, that's enough rambling. The new king is in town, and it's name is TH3 (It's a shared reign so far with BIAS, and there ain't any other contenders in the software realm, for me)

I got the demo of this today and had a decent play around. As is typical, the presets are kind of meh, and terrible EQ. But once you dig into the programming a bit, there's most definitely some very usable sounds to be had. VERY touchy getting "the" sound though - you'll get close, move a mic position and it'll go from "almost there" to "wow, that really sucks" almost immediately. The GUI is still a complete disaster area though. Just navigating around was annoying and many a time I'd go to change a parameter on something and it'd try to move a component out of the chain. Setting up muti-amp rigs is also really cumbersome. Pretty good sounding plugin though, and fairly good with CPU usage, so I'll see how I feel after the demo period is up, and definitely keep an eye on people having problems here.

As I mentioned on the Deals forum, I have serious issues with TH3: Whilst the stand alone app is fine, no problem, when I use TH3 in Sonar (Platinum, current Jamaica Plain release) I have the audio engine dropping out when I open a project with TH3 in it. I created a new project with three audio tracks but with no audio clips and TH3 inserted in the tracks. If I try just about any activity (e.g. just deleting a bus) Sonar will lock up and stop responding. Also, if I have a project with TH3 in, when it loads the audio engine drops out. When I start it and play the track plays then sticks and then motor-boats (i.e. a brief section of sound repeated ~twice a second). Sonar stops responding and I have to terminate the program. Can't get it running successfully at all. All other non-TH3 projects are ok, no problems. I've contacted Overloud support.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I've been torn between Amplitube and TH. I was holding out for the TH3 release to see what it had to offer. I've always heard great things about Amplitube and the demos sound great. I hear great things about Positive Grid Bias, but I think I'm leaning more towards Amplitube at this point.
