Oxygen 49 + Windows 7 + Sonar = Happy?

I've been wanting to replace my Yamaha psr-275 for a while now with something more suited for writing music.

I'm a long time pianist. An 88 key weighted action would be great, but it's way out of my price range. Semi-weighted is worse than nothing. So synth action it is.

As long as I'm saving the perfect keyboard for later, I'm going with the minimum number of keys I think I could tolerate - 49. At least I'll save some space.

The Oxygen 49 seems to fit the bill, but M-Audio makes me nervous. I'm currently running Sonar 8.3. I'll upgrade someday, but 8.3 is really good, so I'm not compelled to at the moment. Anyway I wonder if anyone has experience with the drivers for the Oxygen 49 on Windows 7, preferably 64 bit. I also wonder how nicely it plays with Sonar.

The other keyboard I've been looking at is the A-500Pro. But where aftertouch isn't much of a consideration for me (and I hear terrible things about the A-500's aftertouch anyway) it seems like both products are comparable, but the Oxygen 49 is quite a bit less expensive.

Advice? Experiences?

Edit:  After reading a fair amount on other forums, I am leaning away from the Oxygen 49.  I'll be journeying over to a store where I can feel a few options.  I'm leaning more towards the Nocturn 49 or A-500Pro.

I have the Oxygen61 (silver). The drivers are the same. It worked fine with my system. Used on Sonar 6, 8.3, 8.5 and x1 systems... with windows xp and 7- 64bit. The only warning I can think of is my oxygen started changing parameters after about a year. I did not buy an extended warranty and the 1 and 1/4 year mark was when it started acting funky. I upgraded to the Axiom 49 2nd gen and I have looooooooooooved it. I am NOT a piano player, I use mine for track control, vsts, and messing around with soft-synths.

keep the yamaha, buy yaself a midi interface (cakewalk etc sell em) and use that. you might find it works out cheaper , and save up for an 88 key.. I use a 61 key and a 25 key , but you'll find yourself switching octaves a lot if your used to a real piano.

I agree with Fog, Those cheap controllers like the M audio are about the same anyhow, If it's got MIDI out it's all ya need. Then you go shopping for something that "feals" right. I have a Roland PC 100 that's 20 years old and it's all I've ever needed for MIDI input. I also can borrow a Roland EP7 which is 76 keys and play's nice. They are not expensive buy any means second hand, Just that Roland and Yahaha stuff is solid built so lasts longer. ( Casio is not bad sometimes too)

I bought the Nocturn 49 a couple days ago. I had given up on this thread.

It's nice to hear the M-audio drivers are working well with Sonar and Windows 7.

I do have an midi interface. It has worked out pretty well. I am most looking forward to having a pitch wheel with the Nocturn 49. Plus it will give me a chance to experiment with aftertouch and DAW controls. They might be nice.

A 20 year old keyboard still going strong huh? That's impressive. I wonder if Roland still makes their keyboards that durable.
